Christine read the document over and over again. Jack was going to be heading for Paris. She felt her lose. She was feeling very down when she stopped at Leo's. She ordered a Romulan Ale and was sitting in the corner.
Deveniss came over. Christine had just done a piece on Deveniss and his resignation as commanding officer of the Observatory. She hated to criticize her lover but it was her job. He sat down.
He looked at her, "Why are you so glum?"
Without even thinking, Christine blurted out, "The courts have taken Jack. Do you have any idea what it is like to lose a child?"
Christine covered her mouth in shock as she realized what she had said. Only days earlier, Holliss of Selay had been killed in the Yot Medara attack on the Black Orchid. Jack was not dead. Jack was just involved in a custody battle.
"Oh dear, I am so sorry.", Christine looked at the old Selayan.
Deveniss had suffered a great loss. He had given up his command and now the woman he cared very deeply for had just done something so very insenstive. Deveniss stood up and headed for the door.
Christine knew she had done wrong, maybe very wrong. She had lost Bell and maybe she had just lost Deveniss. She thought of many an editorial about Nicole Branson and her ability to hold on to a relationship. Maybe she suffers the Black Widow curse too.... Wait that too was out of line, Deveniss and Belvedere are still alive.
Christine had become so desensitized. She was just plain insensitive.
