Velvet Sanders stood on the bridge of the Rhodes Island Class USS Providence, the fourth ship to bare the name in the King's Fleet and looked out the main viewer and smiled.
Most officers would consider it a demotion to leave the four nacelle USS Helio's Chariot to take on the smaller Providence but for Velvet this was a homecoming. She was nearly moved to tears when she thought about her grandmother, Vanessa. Vanessa was not born, she was created.
Tholian scientists wanted to create an infiltration tool; a Tholian with a human exterior. Vanessa was the product but when the project was scrapped, she became a wasted beta test. Vanessa struggled to find home until she was given command of the USS Providence in the Phoenix Fleet. She was assigned exploration in the Beta Quadrant and became a known enemy of the Zaranites, a scavenger race. The Starfleet goal was to have Vanessa die out there. She proved them wrong time and time again.
Velvet wanted to measure up to her grandmother. She knew that her mother Vanna struggled to find a niche and to measure up. They shared 100% of the same DNA but Vanna could not get it going.
It is most rare for a family lineage to be played out over a five year year period. The Warren boys are here but much of their growing up occurred long before Camelot. Because of cloning, Velvet, the granddaughter is already sharing the command of her grandmother. These are indeed interesting times.
Autumn came walking in with a coffee for Velvet. Velvet looked at her First Officer, "Are you okay with this?"
"It is my honor to serve next to you. It is my privilege to give up the Chariot to Captain Coren. He is most deserving.", Autumn smiled.
Velvet kissed her on the cheek, "A new adventure begins."
