The Tanmesad has been on the celebrity watch too much lately. The on again off again romance between Ambassador Varno and Major Ro has kept Vash and his crew in the spotlight and a three hundred year old battle for equality part of the popular culture scene. Laws have been enacted. Alien examples of acceptance have been used but cultural conservatism is a part of the foundations of Vulcan and the Federation. Fascist cultural conservatism has been a part of Romulan and Cardassian history. People were killed for not following the accepted social norm.

Thua'ra thought that he had gotten past his own conservatism until he saw Marino and his manhood in that condition. His own feelings were challenged by that appearance and he responded poorly. He asked Marino to leave.

Life in the King's Fleet is described as a soap opera. Life in the colonies is described as non-stop drama. There is little chance of success and even a smaller chance of finding love. Varno had been moping around since he rejected Marino. He was already a tortured soul. He had betrayed the King's Fleet before. He had betrayed the Cardassian people. He had been a man with no country. He had hurt Anora, his first true love. She had outgrown him now. He was simply alone.

Was Ro Marino, with all the baggage that it brings, his last chance at love? Varno knew that he did not want to be alone and watching Vash and Beatrice overcome their differences or watching Tania and Mickey giggling at their table in the officer's mess made it even more difficult.

Varno left the Tanmesad for Hatherton only to see Franklin Stone out in public with Paul Warren dressed in a dress. They did not care what others thought. They just went about their business as boy and girl. There was suptaunch conservative pressure on Paul. He was the son of Captain John Warren. Varno actually thought of what Marino had said about being his fathers son. Paul had become a phenomenal fighter pilot.

Varno then snuck a peak at Patrick Hatherton and Petrine Polley. He was invigorated by all the skulking around. He was almost thrust back to his Obsidian Order days. Patrick was wearing coveralls and working on the Stinger fighter of Tchilick Tchilack. The Hatherton defectors have been working extra hard to regain the trust of the King's so spending extra time on the old fighters, mostly abandoned in favour of the Andorian ones at Camelot would only help the Hatherton defectors. Patrick was thin but looked all man working on the fighters. Thua'ra was always impressed that these men were able to transform and actually able to hide their form in drag.

Varno took the shuttle back to the Tanmesad. He sent a communique to Ro Marino. He needed to see the Bajoran. Marino took the hint and put on a little black dress, blond wig and thigh high black stockings.

Thua'ra rushed down to engineering. Marino looks at Varno, turned around and lifted up the little dress, "Looking feminine enough for you."

The old Cardassian looked at Marino and that a**. A million historical thoughts rushed through his mind. All of them were pushed aside by a single one. Thua'ra may be in love with Ro Marino.

The Cardassian grabbed the Bajoran and the pair reconnected!
