The Inevitability Empty
PostSubject: The Inevitability   The Inevitability EmptyFri May 03, 2024 10:49 am

Admiral Deveniss was standing with Admiral Tan listening to further Klingon bombardment of the surface of Reykja Penthe.

“Don’t they ever stop?”, Admiral Tan asked the aged Selayan.

”They won’t stop until they are certain.”, Operative Cameron Viceroy entered the pod.

“What can we do for you, Agent Viceroy?”, Deveniss retorted smugly.

”I am not here in the capacity of an agent of Section 31, Admiral.”, Cameron looked back a bit hurt by the retort, “I am here as a friend and the son of Admiral Vincent Viceroy.”

”Out with it then.”, Deveniss gave no quarter staring at the dashing young agent.

”Deveniss.”, Cameron tried to smooth things over by using the Selayan’s given name.

“Admiral Deveniss.”, the Selayan corrected.

“Admiral, the Klingons are very upset about the appearance of the Klingon-Tellarite hybrids and the temporal bubble on the planet.”, Cameron bluntly announced.

”Using the Temporal Prime Directive.”, Agent BTU joined the group, “The Klingons received permission from the United Federation of Planets to destroy the lost city of Camelot saying that the temporal bubble was unstable and presented a dangerous hazard.”

”But there are colonists here.”, Admiral Tan, showing his naïveté responded.

”They knew.”, Cameron answered without emotion.

”Who’s they?”, Deveniss responded firmly.

”President Christian Moyer of Earth and Admiral Gabriel Moyer, Starfleet Commander in Chief authorized the operation to further support Klingon and Federation relations.”, Cameron looked at the Selayan.

”But there are colonists here.”, the almost child like Tan responded.

”I know, buddy.”, Cameron looked at Tan. For the first time in the conversation he showed empathy.

“Its worse.”, Agent BTU, the grey skinned alien looked at Deveniss.

Deveniss looked at him and pointed outside at the burning city of Omega and in the distance at the plume from the burning city of Camelot, “How could it be worse?”

Cameron looked at Deveniss, now joined by Governor Bernice Branson and frowned, “The Temporal Experiment designed to create the Klingon-Tellarite Hybrid used the same bio-genetic research completed by Dr. T’Waak of Vulcan and was authorized by Section 31 to create a hybrid capable of mining here. When the hybrids struggled in the city of Camelot waiting for rescue by the colonists and to be brought into this timeline, the Klingons called off the experiment as a failure and opted to destroy the progeny.”

Captain T’Ensa, the highly intelligent Vulcan command of the now failed reinvention of the USS Providence entered the now crowded pod. She looked at the group knowing almost immediately what the group was discussing and she blurted out her own truth, “The Vulcan High Council was aware of the use of T’Waakian genetics in the city of Camelot and did not intervene even though Dr. T’Waak is considered a rebel and his science is considered eugenics and unacceptable. I have learned that the Vulcan High Council was also hoping for miners to come from the experiment.”

Captain T’Ensa looked at Admiral Deveniss, “The resulting hybrids were supposed to be of low intelligence and with each generation in the temporal bubble, the hybrid offspring were supposed to be even lower. The result would be a domesticated slave race.”

”And they all knew.”, Deveniss looked at Cameron.

”They all knew.”, Cameron looked at Deveniss.

”And they are all destroying the evidence.”, Agent BTU looked at the assembled group.

”And what about us?”, Tan looked at BTU and Cameron.

”Once the Klingons are certain that Camelot and its temporal existence are forever destroyed, the Klingons will move to these pods and kill you all.”, Agent BTU looked at Admiral Tan.

The Hierarchy Clanner literally teared up. Was this how it was to end? He had survived so much. They all had.

Cameron looked at the visibly shaken Hierarchy Clanner, “We have been informed by Section 31 that our service to Starfleet Intelligence has completed.”

Tan looked blown away, “What does that mean?”

Bunny looked at Tan and then at Deveniss, “It means, my friend, that the agents are going to die on the surface with us too.”

”Who made that decision?”, Tan frowned, realizing his own naïveté. He had headed Starfleet, not because of his tremendous skills as a commanding officer but because of his tremendous skills as an administrator. His almost autistic savant level of understanding ship location, staffing and requirements were beyond reproach but his understanding of the intricacies of Starfleet Intelligence or is underground operations through Section 31 were tremendously naive.

“Admiral Moro has decided that it would be too risky for someone who knows about both sides of the operations to speak out.”, Cameron frowned.

”This is not my Starfleet.”, Tan frowned.

”The temporal prime directive does apply.”, Admiral Deveniss responded matter of factly.

“And we are just supposed to wait to die.”, Tan looked at his long time friend.

”It appears to be an inevitability.”, Deveniss sat down feeling defeated.
