Catherine walked through the streets of Ephyra City. She looked up at the beautiful orange sun that was Beta Ursae. The faint hue of Bajor could be seen as a backdrop for the wonders of the garden of Bajor. Catherine could not help herself. She was moved to tears thinking about what she had done to Nicole.
She secretly lusted for Nicole. She knew that she had done it out of loyalty to Elizabeth and Illyan. She just wanted to be close to Nicole but after seeing her suffer, she felt horrible for what she had done. She did not want to hurt Nicole in this way.
Catherine got to see her every day. She helped Nicole make sure that she went to the Academy. She kept Nicole up to her appearance schedule. Hatherton may be in command of the Fleet here but Branson is the face of the Fleet here. She had to welcome the dignitaries. She had to host the events where Vash Enranet served as the Cardassian figurehead. Catherine was doing her job but inside she was suffering for the pain she had caused Nicole.
How was she going to tell her that she was the one who caused the betrayal? She was the one who ruined her mother's career as head of Fleet Command at Ephyra. She did these things. Though she was prompted by James Hatherton and Elizabeth Coren, it was her decision to go through with the plan. Yes, it was Hattie Hatherton who delivered the pheromone but the pheromone was created by Dr. Catherine Coren. She did it.
Catherine secretly wanted to tell Nicole there was nothing she wanted do for. She would walk through hell for Nicole.
