Nicole Branson has been a champion of the genetic hold ~ the use of high technology medical techniques to maintain your youth. The process was developed by Bajoran Colonel Acrylos Teero but he would like to more famous for his work with Industrial Replicators than his influence on popular culture with the Tellarite humanist movement and with the quest for youth demonstrated by Branson, her own mother Tania and many others include Admiral T'Ora of Vulcan.
The trouble with the use of nanobotics to control appearance is that the body will soon develop an immunity and begin to expel the nanobots. The ability of the genetic code to protect itself is profound. As one ages, as one attempts to hold the humanist appearance as a Tellarite or other race, the genetic defences begin to kick in and the process is soon reverse requiring additional work. We have seen this with such personnel as Commander Tania Branson attempting to hide her Borg structures and even with other aging Vulcans and Betazoids. In the end, it reverts back. You cannot fight fate.
One of the most resistant of these species is the T'Waakian Hybrids. The Vulcan T'Waak, an eerie Dr. Moreau / Dr. Frankenstien like lunatic, wanted to create a better race by merging the best of many species. His triumphant, the oxen horse like Dawn Keystone, is just one example of the freakish work completed by the Vulcan T'Waak, the infamous Waako (pronounced Wacko).
Dawn has always wanted to hide her "horse face" but has had little success and has often used that to her advantage stripping as a freak for the unconscionable Ferengi Zek Ishka. Dawn took her problem to Sabrina now that the former Executive Officer had some time working on the Flight Command. Commander Madison-Laree was at first reluctant to help Dawn because she took her job but soon maturity won out. Sabrina was instrumental in the work designed to hold Dawn's appearance, at least for a while. She was a Betazoid and she could feel Dawn's pain.
Sabrina thought Dawn wanted to feel normal just to feel normal but the beautiful Keystone had other plans. She wanted to look normal for other reasons.
Captain John Warren had finished her day on the bridge and walked down to his quarters. He would be the first to get to see the handiwork of his new Flight Control Officer, and damn fine work it was.
John gasped as Dawn lowered her coverage. He loved her whether she was her usual self but this was a chance for them to share a different closeness. They both wanted this. They both wanted a long lasting hold.
