Nicole has drawn some staunch criticism in her career for her decision making and leadership but more recently, the Branson Beauty process has drawn criticism, even from alien integration advocates like Ambassador Hulanen Laree of Betazed.
The criticism comes from those who believe that Branson has always been about making the aliens more human. The critics often use the removal of the wrinkled faces of the Tellarites as an example. Branson has dismissed this because it was never the original gal of the nano surgery. The process was designed to keep Nicole looking young. The resulting wrinkle effect was applied to several Tellarites only after the original goal was met.
There has been some significant backlash as protests against becoming "more human" have continued at several facilities around the known worlds.
Betsy had to know the criticism but to her this was about abandoning her Tellar Bovidae heritage, this was about beauty. She was the peacock in the park. She wanted to be noticed. Not just noticed, but noticed by her mate. Betsy went to see Dr. Greene. She knew Nicole had been under a lot of stress and she wanted to give her a gift.
She was able to do just that. She walked into the holo suite in the Covenant Energy office. Nicole was laying on the beach. She saw her first mate.
Nicole looked at the much smaller calf nose. She smiled. Betsy had always been trying to reduce the prominence of the snout. Nicole looked at her, "Is that all that changed?"
Betsy grinned, "Yes."
Betsy exposed the large cow tongue. Nicole gave a silly grin. In many places in the universe, calf tongue from the domesticated progenitor of the Bovidae species is considered a delicacy. For Nicole, the wider, thick tongue was a delicacy for an entirely different reason.
