The colony has become a bizarre site; something no one ever thought they would see. The city of Omega Prime has been recently restocked BY THE ROMULANS. The image of a War Bird on the Lily Pads in the River Covington was something that no one ever expected after the war and the occupation and even after Hunt threatened to attack the Romulan colony of Unroth in retaliation.
Commander T'Ros stood in the operations platform at the Lily Pad when the words came over the COMM link, "Julon Tru, Phoenix Colony."
"Julon Tru.", Commander T'Ros responded. The Romulans were not only cordial, they were welcoming. Nicole stood in utter awe as Romulan Centurians unloaded supplies. She only wished that Admiral Tim Veltkamp were here to see it. The Admiral has remained neutral in the dispute between the Phoenix Fleet and the United Federation of Planets Presidency. The Admiral has a demeanor and way about him that is positively regal. He lacks the impulsiveness of Hunt and has been preaching calm and security within the Phoenix Fleet.
The image of Federation supply vessels coming to and from the Village only remind us that we are different but the same. The flaw is not with the Federation but with its leadership. The will of Star Fleet is not the target of our criticism; it is the will of the Presidency that has lead to the foundation of the Phoenix Unification.
Nicole could not help but belief that Admiral Veltkamp would be moved by the appearance of the Romulan Centurians unloading materials and goods. Admiral Tim Veltkamp has always spoken so highly of making his Fleet and his staff develop a home for all races and for all people.
Nicole prayed that Federation would see the horror of President Johnson and his vengeful ways. He sees Hunt as a symbol of the freedom of thought that he despises. All should think like him; all should be like him.
Bertrand Russell once said, "Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd."
Admiral William Hunt is not a member of the herd. He does not think like the others. He is the idealist who founded the Wrath of Achilles and now, alone against the presidency, he faces a wrath of an entirely different kind.
Nicole looked out at the stars watching ships, Romulan and Federation alike coming to and from the colony and she wondered about the Unification and what it really meant.
Nicole thought of something Vincent had told her, "Nicole, I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Vulcans, Romulans, Cardassians, Bajorans or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the Pheonix Unification -- a unity yet unfulfilled. A Unity of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a Unity of planets where races will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a unity of planets where races will not argue that the origin of a races's birth planet determines the content of his character; a unity of planets where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of the unification; the unification of planets where every race will respect the dignity and worth of the Phoenix personality, to paraphrase Dr. King."
Nicole was moved deeply by the speech. There must be a unity. The Phoenix Unification needs to be a beacon for what is right; for equality and most of all for home.
