Galileo Leo, a Caitian raised in a prominent Caitian restaurateur family who always wanted to be amongst the stars. He was finally given the chance aboard the USS / CGV Tanmesad. The joint Federation-Cardassian Mission was destined to fail and the wayward son would fail and return to Cait as a chef.
The mission did not fail. In fact, the mission helped lay the groundwork for the return of the King’s Fleet. Galileo Leo did not fail. He became an Admiral, learned ship command and became an irreplaceable asset to the King’s Fleet.
Galley stood at the doors of the restaurant aboard the USS Quasar Quest. He had come full circle. The USS John Paul II, the Pope was among the first ships destroyed by Starfleet in the cleansing. Decisions he had helped make had lead to the ship being destroyed. He took full responsibility for those mistakes. He deserved to be here cooking for the crew of the Quest.
Galley stepped into the beautiful facility, He was looking around when Jasmine Naar’Haaj came walking in, “What should we do first?”
Galley looked at Jasmine, “Oh Jasmine, no. You are a starship captain. Captain Warren can find you a role here. You are not a hostess in a restaurant.”
Jasmine looked at Galley, “We are a crew. We support each other. Besides, I was on the bridge too. There is a penance for losing a ship, Commander.”
Galley rubbed his face and headed into the kitchen. There were over 800 people on the ship. Replicators existed but many wanted food prepared by real hands using age old methods. Things just tasted better.
Christian and Lalara came walking in. Galley turned, “Not you too! Christian was going to be a Captain and Lalara is a Doctor.l
Christian opened the towel he was carrying in his arms. It was the dedication plaque from the USS John Paul II. He placed it on the wall in the kitchen. Christian turned to Galley, “Someday we will take it down together and put it back where it belongs, on the bridge of a starship but for today, Welcome to The Vatican, home of the crew of the USS John Paul II.”
Christian placed his hand on the shoulder of Galileo Leo, “We are here for you, sir. Put us to work.”
Galileo looked at Jasmine and tears filled his eyes. Jasmine kissed his snout, “We are alive, that’s what matters.”
Jasmine looked at the brewing broth, “And we have been through worse.l
Galley looked at the bone floating in the broth. They had. He took a deep breath. The dinner rush would begin soon.
