Bunny came into the offices of Admiral Tan of the Hierarchy. Tan is responsible for the Fleet Staffing. The Hierarchy Clanner is simply meticulous. Each ship will have a CO, an XO, a Tactical / Flight Control officer and a doctor / science officer. He is almost autistic in his approach.
His gentle, non-judgmental nature makes him an excellent conduit for problems. Moyer is too fresh and inexperienced and Deveniss is too by the book to be helpful.
The hippie protester turned prison escapee confirm that she may be pregnant. Tan gasped, “Dear lord, aren’t you with the Selayan?”
“How the hell did that work?”, Tan gasped, covering his face with his pudgy fingers.
Bunny looked Tan, ‘That is none of your business.”
“Should we be happy?”, Tan asked inquisitively.
“No!”, Bunny screeched, “Even I think it’s unnatural.”
“It may be worse than that.”, Tan offered.
“Admiral Deveniss is betrothed to Eveniss of Selay since Childhood. Eveniss joined the Nunnary to avoid the wedding but they are pair bonded. The good Admiral joined the Selayan Space Force out of sorrow.”, Tan explained.
“If you are with child, it is likely Admiral Deveniss and Ambassador Eveniss will be sentenced to death on the Selayan homeworld.”, Tan frowned.
“We were just messing around. Nothing was to come of it.”, Bunny teared up.
“Come of what?”, Deveniss joined them in the Fleet briefing room.
“Governor Branson may be pregnant.”, Tan blurted out.
“Admiral!!”, Bunny screamed not wanting to tell Deveniss in this way.
“We have to confirm.”, Admiral Deveniss looked at Tan.
“The colony lacks a lab to confirm inter species conception at this early stage. It would take a Starfleet lab to do that.”, Tan looked at the ground disappointed he could not offer a better solution.
“How could we? Or better yet, who has Federation connection who would be willing to keep it a secret?”, Deveniss asked.
“What about Colonel Brown? He is working for the Federation News Network. He would have access to a lab and as a former Fleet Marine Commandant, he should be loyal to the Fleet and the colony.”, Tan offered.
“Do it.”, Bunny begged.
Bunny and Deveniss sat in the observation deck of Governor’s Station awaiting the news. They never spoke but Deveniss put his clawed hand on hers. It was a special moment for the couple.
Colonel Belvedere Brown walked into the bubble pod looking at the two stargazers. The Antican looked at Admiral Deveniss, “Not pregnant.”
Bunny jumped up, “Yes! Not pregnant.”
She turned back to see the sadness in the eyes of the cobra headed snake man Selayan, in that moment, she was suddenly sad too.
No words were spoken. She slowly walked from the bubble pod.
