Bunny was sitting in the Zek’s when Paagu, the Tellarite came over and looked at her, “It gets worse you know.”
Bunny looked at the Tellarite, “How could it get worse?”
“The Caitians despised the Raitians and systematically hunted them down in a near genocide. It is why many of them left, especially the males.”, Paagu explained in his bad shirt and jeans.
“Why only the males?”, Bunny asked thinking of her father.
“You are not going to like it.”, Paagu responded.
“I don’t like it now.”, Bunny explained.
“The Raitians began to lose their fur as the mutation that led to their creation became more prevelent. These hairless rabbitoids became a bit of a sexual deviance as the Caitian society moved forward. Many were put into the sex trade or sold a sex workers to wealthy Caitian households.”, Paagu explained, “Including House Leo.”
Bunny’s stomach churned thinking of Galileo, Picasso, and Copernicus, whom she considered friends.
General Rommel Tabby came up and sat beside the Governor, “Beer, my good man.”
Bunny looked at the Caitian named for the famous German and Nazi Field Marshal and got up in a huff.
Rommel looked at Paagu, “What did I do?’
“Not what you did, General. What your ancestors did.”, Paagu frowned.
Rommel turned around looking at the Governor leaving. He stared at his beer without saying a word.
Paagu looked at Rommel, a great tactician and a good man, “All races have difficult histories, General. Part of the reason for the success of the King’s Fleet is the fact that the colonists and service men and women have been able to put that history behind them to work for the common good. Caucasians enslaved blacks on Earth. Nazi Germany exterminated Jews and homosexuals on Earth. Cardassians kept Bajorans as Comfort Women. The Dominion laid waste to Cardassia in the withdrawal. The Gorn committed acts of genocide to create nurseries for their offspring. Caitians killed Raitian males and kept their females as playthings. The truth is we have to be better. These are lessons.”
The Caitian General downed his beer, “We have to be better.”
