The shouting argument between Admiral John Williams and Admiral William Hunt has been played a lot on FBN and ONN. Williams is the head of Star Fleet Intelligence and of course Hunt is the current acting head of Star Fleet. Williams has been an ardent supporter of the Phoenix Federation and helped draft the charter seperation from the United Federation of Planets but Williams is also a realist.
Supporting two colonies, New Terra and the Phoenix Colony even if with populations close to 10 million a piece is not a priority in comparison to the protection of major states of the United Federation of Planets in the Alpha Quadrant. Protecting Vulcan, Betazed, Bajor and Earth takes priority over New Terra and the Phoenix Colony.
Williams shouted at Hunt that the Retarnee were a Beta Quadrant enemy and therefore not his concern. Hunt demanded that the supply lines remain open. He was flat out told that Star Fleet would not use its resources to protect HIS interests in the Beta Quadrant.
William Hunt had the unenviable task of telling Governor Varno and the government of New Terra that there would be no Federation supplies. The colonies would be forced to make it on their own.
Christine criticized Hunt, Branson and Varno for their inability to ensure the safety of the colony. She launched into a tirade about getting in bed with the enemy only to be left with nothing. Christine compared the actions of the Alpha Quadrant rescue to sleeping with your ex-wife.
Her comparison sent shockwaves through the colony... The Vulcan - Romulan hybrid has a way of getting under everyone's skin.
