Vincent did not want to appear threatened by the request from Praetor T'Ros to negotiate a treaty to create a non-aggression pact between the King's Fleet and the Romulan Star Empire. He wanted to send the flagship, the Quasar Quest and Captain John Warren to do the negotiations but he knew that the Romulans would instantly get their back up.
Admiral Viceroy sent the USS Usain Bolt hoping that Peter Warren would not be considered a threat. Peter was a Warren. He would be honourable in representing the King's Fleet. He would also report back without that layer of personal promotion.
The Bolt returned with a fully signed non-Aggression pact. Captain Peter Warren had done a fantastic job. With the Romulans pulling back, the Klingons would have time to rebuild and the King's could do a little Cardy hunting.
The fleet was raving about the negotiations between Captain Peter Warren and Romulan Saehir Marrus. Both FBN and CBS were raving about the deal. Peter was being praised as his father's son and John himself had raved about his pride in Peter having found his way as a commanding officer.
Christine wanted this one. With her renewed romances with Belvedere Brown being the focus of the CBS evening celebrity spot, she wanted to bring down Brittany and her fledgling network with a major scoop. She scoured the logs only to find a young engineer who had opened the sealed personal logs of his Captain to see how the negotiations actually played out. Christine could not believe what she found. Peter had negotiated all right. He had Saehir right where he needed her.
Doesn't the guy remember that she betrayed the King's and is responsible for many deaths? Christine went live with the Kirkian negotiations hurting Peter and John and even the current King's Fleet leadership. The events of the negotiations are still valid. The Romulans are quiet.
Perhaps the end justifies the means....
