Varno had lost his link to the Alpha Quadrant. He was the Ambassador of a Republic more that 75 years at maximum warp away wipithout the Andorian Gateway. He was a useless old fool now. He was moping around the Tanmesad like a lost puppy.
Worse yet, many in the King's still did not trust him. He had betrayed the Fleet before and many Cardassians aboard the Tanmesad even saw him as knowing what Section 31 and the Tal Shiar were up to. They believe in the ghosts of the Obsidian Order. Thua'ra was all alone.
He stopped by to see Marino. The Cardassian told his Bajoran lover that he had nothing to offer the Tanmesad now. He had no role here. Marino felt sorry for his lover. Varno left a depressed mess.
Marino thought about the event a lot. He went upstairs and changed. When Varno returned, he would show his mate.
Varno came back to engineering after the evening meal. Marino looked at the Cardassian, "Would you not agree that the Chief Engineer is a critical position aboard a vessel? Particularly an old vessel?"
"Yes.", Varno still could not see his Bajoran friend.
"Would you not then agree that keeping the engineer in good spirits is essential to the safe operation of the ship?", Marino offered.
"Yes.", Varno looked for the voice.
Marino came walking out from behind the Cardassian warp chamber. He looked at Thua'ra, dressed very effeminately, "I think I have discovered your importance to the Tanmesad. You are here to keep me happy; an essential part of this ship's functionality."
Varno smiled for the first time since everyone became stranded. He looked at Marino, spinning around his Bajoran partner and leaning him against the console. He dropped the Bajoran's uniform pants. Marino smiled. Varno pressured inside the Bajoran engineer.
He knew his role now.
