There have been multiple studies on homosexuality at the college and even at Starfleet Academy with the goal of understanding a sexual drive not based upon reproduction but as a show of affection. All species are driven instinctually to reproduce. It is the basis for ensuring survival of the species. There have been movements put forth to classify homosexuality as a genetic abnormality and simply remove it from the acceptable gene codes.
Behaviouralist shave argued that the genetics of being more I tuned with your feminine side as a male provides for greater affinity to make cup houses of the heart and are essential to balance the innate aggression in the male of the species. Removal of the gene code could result in an over affinity for violence like the Klingons or Gorn.
Homosexuality comes in many forms from simply being attracted to another person of the same gender to literally wanting to be the other gender through transsexuality or to dressing like the other gender as a cross dresser or bi gender personality. The King's a Fleet has long preached inclusion as the very foundation of the Federation serving as a beacon for an all inclusive society.
This has allowed the protected territories to be home for people like Paul Warren, Patrick Hatherton and Cougar Faulkner as cross dressing males and a home for other non demonstrative homosexuals like Ro Marino or Marcus Montgomery.
Nicole Branson has encouraged people to be who they are no matter what that may be. Patrick Hatherton has become a brilliant fighter and shuttle engineer in the King's Fleet. His value has been clearly demonstrated since the return from Carlisle Penitentiary. He has literally had to rebuild the fighters after the Zaranites took everything they could. Patrick has spent more time in coveralls than in drag.
Patrick had a horrible time at Carlisle Penitentiary. Many inmates learned of his choice of sexuality and treated him poorly as a result. Patrick was not very upset to distance himself from anything sexual or even feminine when he first got back.
He used some the credits he had earned with Ishka to get onto the holo suite just to be away from everyone. He put a nice pair of pink shorts and a pink spaghetti strap shirt. He removed the hair from his body and just went for a walk in the garden.
Patrick had knelt down to smell the flowers when Franklin came through the arch, "I was hoping to find you here."
Patrick looked at Franklin, "Because of what happened with Paul and at the Penn, I am not interested in continuing our relationship."
Franklin looked at Patrick, "Are you sure?"
It has to be this way.", Patrick frowned.
Franklin had ruined everything by killing Paul to get away from the Family Stone.
