At first we thought it was another United Federation of Purists (UFP) attack. The geo-thermal plant shook violently and there was a brief period when there was no power around the colony and then a big spike, enough that most lights in the suburbs blew. Just what we needed. We had just finished construction in the Cardassian Community.
I dispatched Lt. Commander Laaker Teero, the Damage Control Specialist to the scene. I never even left my office. Power was back on. I never expect anything like this.
The biggest concern from the colony leadership had been our commanding officer, Rear Admiral Nicole Branson slapping down Christine T'Nley after the reporter accused the commander of sleeping with the Omega Fleet Leadership in order to get the plumb post as Omega Colony chairperson. Nicole blasted her across the face with a slap ~ another act of inappropriate behavior but hell in her situation I would have slapped her too. Nicole has done an excellent job in building the city, the community and the Academy.
Laaker investigated only to find no detonation device, just our geo-thermal energy pool bubbling, like a cauldron. Laaker did some preliminary tests and then called him frantic and his voice cracking, "Ace, you need to come down here."
I was working on some paperwork and trying to get Laaker's damn automated fire supression systems to function with no fire chief. I told him, "Laaker, I am not coming down there. How bad is the damage?"
Laaker responded, "Ace, this is NO joke. You need to come down here."
I grabbed a public teleportation portal and arrived at the Geo-Thermal Facility. Laaker quickly showed me the reading. Holy Crap!! This must be kept top secret.
The reason the geo-thermal core functions so well and never appears to lower the energy source is there is the presence of the Omega Molecule in the molten core of the colony. The truth is, this is a virtually endless supply of energy. No wonder the Cardassians laid claim to the territory when they were involved in the Dominion War. No wonder the Klingons have been seen in the region.
I wondered if anyone could have known. I wondered if Admiral Veltkamp could have known that his colony was built on what may be the most important planet in the quadrant. I looked at Laaker. I asked him, "How many people know?"
"You, I and that technician over there.", replied Laaker. I turned and FIRED MY PHASER ON STUN!! Down when the tehnician. This is an absolute secret. I contacted Dr. Skylight Greene. She beamed to our location. She was furious but agreed to wipe the memory engrams that had recording the readings.
I left to meet with Admiral Viceroy and Rear Admiral Branson. We need to keep this the highest level of Top Secret. The colony would be in huge, huge danger if the clammering races in the quadrant knew that that the colony core contained the Omega Molecule, the aptly named "Omega Prime". This is a prime energy source, not only for us but for the entire quadrant.
No one can know. The secret must be kept at all costs.
