Rachel pulled back her hair and banded it into a pony tail as she reviewed her notes. Presently eight members of the “Board” filed in and took their places in a semi-circular table in front of her, all seemed to carry the same grave expression. At the center chair Jason McMillian from New, New York cleared his throat and began the meeting.
“Are we ready to proceed Dr. Ofstan?”
Quickly turning back to the beginning of her notes she looked up. “Yes Sir.. Shall we?”
“Dr. Ofstan, If you would begin with a brief summary of the PLC project for our newest member Mr. Rasfinar.” McMillian asked looking at the gentleman from New Delhie.
“The Past Life Contact Project is part of a broader underground co-operative effort on the part of the Governments of Earth to find a way to deal with the quarantine the Ambrosians have placed on the planet. As we all know the Ambrosians arrived in Federation Space 276 years ago from the neighboring Galaxy R45A. It was and is the first contact with an alien species outside of our own galaxy, with the exception of the unsubstanciated reports from the historical Star Ship Enterprise around the year 2256.
The Ambrosions presented themselves as a benevolent race and indeed we were at peace for almost 75 years, having provided a suitable planet for a colony, with what appeared to be open cultural exchanges between us. Then without any warning, an overpowering fleet of ships arrived from their galaxy and within days the Earth was cut off from all contact with the Fleet and all other planetary systems. To this day we have no idea what became of the fleet or the rest of the Federation, including the newly established members the Klingons, the Romulans and the Carrdisians. It came as the greatest disappointment to all that at the moment the entire galaxy seemed to be coming together in peace, the work of generations was snapped away in an instant.
The Ambrosians not only made escape from Earth impossible, Contact thru subspace impossible, but have neutralized all but the most basic Fusion generation plants on the planet making advanced research impossible.
Having little else to available a group of scientist have begun investigating the possibility of contacting previous generations thru a more Metaphysical approach, in an effort to warn them of the Ambrosians true intent and possibly change this time line.
The PLC Project has met with limited success. The project has proved beyond an doubt the reality of re-incarnation and genetic memory. And there has been a recent contact with a past life that we feel, holds promise of actually getting a message thru.”
“Who is this contact Dr. Ofstan?” McMillain asked.
Rachel hesitated. She wasn’t ready to provide details and was sure Steven had not shared with the Board he was one of the study subjects.
“Dr. Ofstan?” McMillain asked again becoming impatient.
She cleared her throat. “Mr. Steven Michaels.”
McMillain leaned back in his chair, the surprise on his face apparent to everyone. “Why was the board not apprised that the Assistant Secretary of Planetary Defense was participating as a subject?”
“You’ll have to ask him Sir.”
“Oh I will Doctor, I most certainly will. And can you please elaborate on this ‘contact’.”
“Yesterday afternoon at 14:00 in my lab Mr. Michaels made contact with a previous incarnation. Post debriefing after the contact confirmed this was an actual past life and not a genetic memory.”
“And the time frame of this past life?”
“We are confident we are looking at 2250 to 2375.”
“Based on?”
“Impressions from the general surroundings, we think the past life was on a planet known as the Phoenix colony, in the Beta Quadrant. That colony has few surviving records, but what we do know it was in existence in that time frame. “
“And did you get a message back to the past life?”
“No sir. That will come with the follow-up session tonight.”
McMillian rubbed his chin and whispered something to the man on his right. He looked up and frowned. “Dr. Ofstan. You are to make every possible effort to make that contact and get that message thru at the earliest possible time. You are to take whatever measures are required. Do you understand what I’m saying Doctor?”
A few of the Board had been aware of the possibility of drug enhanced hypnosis to facilite contact, but the side effects could be….deadly.
“Sir. I hesitate to use extreme measures at this time.”
“Doctor. We’re out of time. What you are not aware of is intelligence we’ve just been provided that the Ambrosions are about to start shutting down our power generation systems.”
“Sir?”
“Doctor Ofstan, in a matter of days, we could all be back to the equivalent of the Dark Ages. And then you won’t have the chemical needed to help your project.”
“Dear god….” She whispered.
