Nicole was in a dither. She was frantically tidying up her office and her desk. She had called Acrylos in from his supervision of the excavation at Outpost 294 to help her make everything spiffy.
Vincent walked in and actually started to laugh when he saw the frantic state of his little protege. "Nikki, calm down."
"He is a real, god's honest Brigadier General, Vincent.", Nikki smiled.
"I have heard he is a real Star Fleet guy too.", Nikki cringed at the thought with memories of Admiral Bruce Montgomery popping into her head.
"We have to look spiffy when he shows up. We have to look professional. Russo is a friend of Rear Admiral Nick Covington. He knows all about the Omega Research, about the reprimand and about what has been going on down here.", Nicole was frantic.
Vincent smiled and put his hand on her shoulder, "The mess is behind us, Nicole. We are busy working on warp enhancement now. You need not worry. Brigadier General William Russo will be busy with Phoenix Fleet operations and will spend very little time as part of the Phoenix Colony operation. He simply needs a home which has been graciously provided in the Omega gated community and an office which Mr. Teero has already set up here.",
Acrylos nodded without speaking.
There came a tiny knock on the door. It was Dr. Velta Varno. Nikki had not seen her "Velvet" in a few days. Velta had been overseeing further archeological study at Outpost 294. Nikki even thought that Velta was avoiding her. Velta walked over and hugged Nikki very tightly, "It is so good to see you, sweetie."
Acrylos smiled. Vincent smirked and turned away.
Velta put her forehead onto Nikki's and the pair shared a soft whisper about missing one another and then engaged in a deep wet kiss...
Just as Brigadier William Russo walked into the room.
He had to be thinking, "What the hell have I gotten myself into?"
