Elizabeth Coren led Ambassador T'Ken into the room. She was actually looking for Vincent but the Commodore had already left for Governor's. T'Ken looked at Nicole who was standing next to the console.
"Chancellor Branson.", T'Ken began.
Nicole turned around, "Ambassador T'Ken."
The daughter of Praetor T'Ros looked positively radiant dressed in tradiational Romulan black. She was very beautiful.
"The Empire would like to express its dislike for the current political situation.", T'Ken explained.
"What situation?", Nicole responded.
"The Empire is not pleased with the sovereignty association agreement between the Phoenix Federation and the United Federation of Planets. With the ship building facilities here and on New Terra, with the Black Dragon and King's Battlegroup, the Romulan Star Empire believes that the balance of power in the region is affected by the unity of Star Fleet and the Phoenix Fleet. We have spoken to Commander Merken Vreenak about our beliefs. Commander Vreenak and President Hunt are close friends. It is important for the colony to realize that association with the United Federation of Planets affects the neutrality of the Amanda Corridor.", T'Ken half warned Nicole.
"The work of Admiral Hunt was critical in the liberation of the Earth from the overextended Retarnee Advance Fleet. Our association with Star Fleet prevents another invasion in to the Alpha Quadrant. This is an association for peace.", Nicole retorted.
"Chancellor Branson is the Dean of the Academy. She does not speak for the colony or its government.", Legate Varno, the Cardassian Governor entered the Phoenix Federation Complex war room.
T'Ken started to laugh, "Legate Varno... Dear Thua'ra, you like our own D'Solos Vreenak need to understand one truth. It does not matter who is Governor of the Phoenix Colony, Nicole Branson runs the colony. It does not matter who or what you call your military, Vincent Viceroy, the Commodore runs the Colony military structure. Call them Chancellor and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. Call them whatever you like, Cardassian but they are the brain trust."
Varno was furious. He brushed by Nicole. Varno had not had any real power since he left Cardassia. Being Station Commander on Terok Beta, a lost Nor Class Station was not power. He had not shown his Cardassian side in too long. He turned to T'Ken, "The Phoenix Colony and Phoenix Federation does not require Romulan approval to do anything. Is that understood?"
Nicole could not believe his tone, "Governor Varno, please some decorum."
Varno glared at Nicole, "This is the only language that the Romulans understand."
T'Ken glared at Varno, "Pawn!"
The Romulan ambassador stormed from the room. She had little respect for Varno. He had spent his energy getting enough Cardassians in place to get elected but he never developed a plan for once he got elected and it was showing. The Cardassian was struggling and he did not even know it.
