The goal of peace became even more evident in the working of Nicole Branson as she tried to end the Romulan control conflict. When Mary Lou Cole ran the Commune, it would often be used to bring this type of incident to a close. She had a way of bringing people together for a gala event.
Felicity Powers did not seem to have the same gifts but was happy to oblige when Nicole and Christine came to her about the possibility of holding the Romulan event. The goal being to bring Merken Vreenak and T'Ros in the same room without the tension of Centurians and political goals on the side.
Felicity brought every ounce of Romulan Ale the replicators could make to the event in order to give the Romulans every comfort of home.
The story of Beeno Tall is one that has become part of the culture of the Phoenix Colony now. His Jarada heritage and his struggle to be accepted by the Federation and by Starfleet is exactly the symbol the colony hoped to apply. This was a place where you could be yourself.
Beeno has become engrained in the staff of the Dr. Leonard McCoy Institute. Dr. Skylight Greene has only one concern; can Beeno practice medicine? It is the most at home that Beeno has felt, ten years after his service to the Captain Amanda Mitchell and the USS Wrath of Achilles. Beeno had spent the evening with General John Smith. The general tried to convince Beeno to come to the Gala without his symbiote; to be himself.
Beeno was afraid that Charity would not come. Charity agreed to come but only on one condition. If Beeno would find someone to go with her new friend, Shayna Edison. Beeno looked at Charity. He did not know anyone on the colony, at least not anyone who he would be close enough to beg for a double date. Charity told Beeno that these were the conditions.
Beeno informed General Smith that he would be unable to attend the gala because of the request. John looked at Beeno, "I will serve as your double. The Commander can be my date to the Gala."
Beeno, Charity and Shayna walked up to the Commune. General Smith appeared to see the beautiful club outfits of Shayna and Charity, "Your beauty is positively radiant."
Beeno was so amazed that the Phoenix Colony translator worked well enough that the girls could could actually understand the language of the Jarada, including his Mellifera sub-dialect. He rarely got to appear without his hybrid.
The gala may not have done much for the relationship with the Romulans but it was wonderful for Beeno, John, Shayna and Charity who spent the nights dancing and laughing and joking. Beeno and Charity finished up the last bottle of Romulan Ale on the table and then headed back to the N for Nicole housing in the center of Omega Prime. Charity asked Shayna, "Would you like to share a cab?"
"I'm okay.", Edison responded, grabbing another bottle.
John and Shayna were soon joking and laughing. The general looked at Shayna, "I am to retire to my quarters in Jersey. Would you like to join me?"
Shayna thought about Hulanen Laree, the expert on interspecies relations and about the Babylon Universe. She would never even have imagined such a possibility there. Shayna looked at General John Smith. She was so curious as to what it would mean.
Finally, she replied, "I would love to."
Someday, the world will know what happened on the Jersey shore but not today... That will be up to Shayna to say but lets just say, she arrived a bit late to the colony complex the next morning.
