The scene on the Phoenix Colony cannot be described. There is a horror that is war and then there is a horror that is an invasion by a superior force. The Retarnee came in droves. Major Tanus and his Dragons were pinned down and were soon overran. Tanus has been a mercenary in his previous life. He fought the Federation with the Tholian Alliance.
During that war, the Gorn came to offer Tanus an opportunity to return home. Tanus turned them down informing them that he did not wish to return to the Hegemony unless he was returning a hero. The Gorn Hegemony gave Tanus a call button that would allow him to contact them for extraction at any time.
Tanus thought he would never use it but he kept the symbol of the Gorn Hegemony on a sash that wrapped his chest. He watched as the Retarnee killed his soldiers. He watched as they fell back to the Drop Ship. Tanus tapped the combadge and begged for extraction.
D'Tall was the only Dragon still there. Tanus looked at the Gorn, "She is with me, she is my Orion Slave."
The Gorn withdrew both Tanus and D'Tall. D'Tall and Tanus went to the Gorn homeworld. It was there that Tanus abused D'Tall and he kept her close so that she would not be taken by the Hegemony.
Tanus was given a ship. He came here to Ephyra. He came to help. It was here that he would discover that some of his dragons had survived. Tanus, Alexis, Bull and Vengeance stood in the Ephyra City Lounge looking over at D'Tall as she walked in. For Alexis, Bull and Vengeance, it was the first time they had seen her since extraction. D'Tall looked so beautiful.
Tanus smiled, "What?"
D'Tall looked at Tanus, "Why me? You could have left me??"
Tanus looked at her, "When there was nothing, you were there. When there was Meadow, you were there. When we were dying, you were there. I could never leave you there."
Tanus looked at D'Tall, "We are Dragons and like the great myths, we are eternal."
D'Tall kissed him deeply on the mouth, "You are an idiot, you could not leave me because you love me..."
D'Tall had not kissed anyone like this since H'Royl killed himself and took the lives of her children. Things can be reborn in the Garden. Things can grow here. Memories of the old colony are just that...
