When Captain Marrus banished Olive's two children from the Edward, she had no idea of the consequences. Olive sent the children back to the Tellerite homeworld to spend the time with Propeya's parent, their paternal grandparents. Olive believed that once she returned to Ephyra she would summon the children and her blended family would be set with Nicole, Colby, Brenna and Mac.
It was to be the miracle she had hoped for. Nicole had been at the Academy and had even shared a nice brunch with Olive before returning to her office. She knew that the Tactical Department dispersed its students into the coop program in the afternoon. Many would take on shuttle craft and worker bee tasks, but the elite few would join a King's Fleet vessel on a daily trade run to Betazed. Olive was still getting her feet wet as a lecturer and lab technician so she would take the afternoon off.
Nicole arrived home to find a sobbing Olive sitting on the couch....
"What is it?", Nicole grabbed Olive holding her tightly.
Olive handed Nicole a communication PADD. Nicole read the words. They served like daggers in her heart.
"You took our prized child so we took yours."
The image of the two children covered by sheets will scar Olive and Nicole forever. How can a founding culture of the United Federation, the Tellerites were among the first four, be so cruel as to execute children to even some family score?
Francine and Brenna walked in to find their adoptive mothers crying. Francine looked at Olive, "What is it?"
Nicole slowly passed the PADD to Francine. She was only 14 years old but she understood. She was a Tellerite. The words were bad enough but the image of the two children who had been her playmates throughout her childhood dead on the tables were horrid. Francine and Brenna held each other and the four oldest females in the household just held each other.
Ephyra was to be the Garden of Bajor and the arrival of the King's Fleet refugees was to be the beginning of a new golden age. Nicole wondered when this would actually begin.
