The Politics of Dancing Empty
PostSubject: The Politics of Dancing   The Politics of Dancing EmptyMon Sep 24, 2012 7:27 pm

So the Federation is in bed with the Romulans now to prevent a Vulcan powerbase forming in the Betazoid Alliance. The Federation has preached mutually assured destruction, has policed the neutral zone and cultivated political standoffism with the Romulan Star Empire for over a 100 years but when it comes to get messy, the Federation has no problem in using the Tal Shiar to meet an end.

Starfleet Intelligence disavows any knowledge of Section 31, of the workings of the intelligence underground but insiders confirm that Section 31 wanted Branson and Viceroy taken out and not T'Loridel. The unnerving popularity of both political figures made that option unpallatable to the central command.

Hatherton had already approved the Temporal blending. The decision remains devisive and very unpopular. He could not then approve the destruction of one of the member fleets in his Starfleet Command. Hatherton chose a different route. Another Vulcan is dead. Another symbol of the Vulcan Intellectual Community is lost forever to perpetuate the blended timeline. This man was once in charge of Starfleet Temporal Investigations and he and he alone has become the focal point of the worst temporal incident in the known timeline. The devastating loss of Vulcan has once again put Vulcans, their intelligence and their fleet on the defensive. Giving that fleet a central base in the Betazoid Star System would lead to risks to having T'Ora once again at the head of Starfleet. Hatherton could not have that.

Now the Tellerites are trying to capture their piece of the power pie. Admiral Marcus-Brutus Pan'Taar wants to be recognized a Fleet Commander by Starfleet Command. He has a legitimate claim. The Tellerites were among the four founding peoples of the Federation. He too needs to be controlled. Sources close to Pan'Taar indicate that his closet is not clean. No one will yet reveal what he has hidden but recent fleet movements in the King's Fleet indicate that Starfleet and the King's Fleet are aware of his skeleton and are closely monitoring its movement.

The Betazoid houses have also been rocked by the death of T'Loridel because of the mind meld host for Dr. Orchid Coren. This has left the matriarchy of Betazed once again in the lurch with Loiza Coren-Lau and Elizabeth Coren continuing to vy for control of the powerful Betazoid Alliance and the Corinthian Starbase Network which boasts several powerful bases through the Alpha and Beta Quadrant.

The loss of Vulcan has lead to a dangerous game of chess being played on different levels by different players. Who will win? Who knows? The players have only begun to move the pawns for now. No one has dared move a knight or a queen out of the home position. No one has dared to take a chance.
