The momentum generated by the command of the USS Retribution by Rear Admiral Tan has created a stir in the King's Fleet. Admiral Viceroy has had little choice but to reassign the Rear Admiral back to the Observatory. Things are just as they should be. Vincent promptly restored Tan back to the position of Deputy Chief in his King's Fleet.
Everyone understands why Tan left for Paris and the price to be paid for those choices. Tan was punished. He gave up his station. He had to go the surface and learn about politics. He had to prove himself once again.
Deveniss played the public game accepting the position he held for most of his King's Fleet career replacing John Warren as the Chief of Staff. Deveniss however asked for a regional office and was given the in-field position aboard the USS Providence. Tan had briefly served as the ship's captain.
In private, Deveniss was furious. He felt that John had manipulated the situation by putting the Tan, Summer, S'Nii and Lindsay on the Retribution to give Tan a chance to show up everyone and to get noticed once more. Deveniss wanted the role of Chief of Staff because he wanted to have more control over ship assignment to prevent this type of scenario from happening again. He was not going to be shown up again.
S'Nii and Lindsay are one of the great love stories in the history of the King's Fleet. S'Nii was the failing valedictorian. Lindsay was the niece of the senior commander. Each wanted someone to just love them for them. They have been the picture of the perfect couple since finding one another. S'Nii has failed but Lindsay had been there to hold her and to bring her back again.
No one expected what happened to happen. No one could have predicted it. Saehir wanted to be on the bridge all the time after she came to the Providence. She was finally back in space. Marrus should be revered for flying the Branson Bisect but she is more remembered for her harsh term as the Regional Praetor in the Cheron Sector. She loves to be in space. Politics were thrust upon her. No one expected Saehir, a Romulan and S'Nii to hit it off so well.
S'Nii was reborn in the Tanmesad killshot. She was once again confident in her work and her beauty. She had a renewed conviction to command the Providence. Saehir saw this new drive as exciting and even sexy. Late one night, S'Nii had been chasing a Darona fighter who was tempting the Lancelot Line. Her amazing touch on the helm of the Rhodes Island Class turned the mighty ship into a big cat chasing a little mouse. It was truly amazing to observe. There was a reason she was the best student of her class. She had tremendous skill. The short time she spent on the helm of the Retribution had once again renewed her love for flying. Saehir could not believe how sexy she looked making that big cat dance. It truly was divine providence. The Romulan leaned down and kissed the Vulcan on the cheek. S'Nii was shocked.
One, these were races hell bent against public displays of affection. Two, S'Nii had never had anyone other than Lindsay make advances towards her. The beautiful blond Vulcan Captain stood up and kissed the dainty Romulan. Soon, they were laying on the floor enjoyed the pleasure of each others company and the pleasure of being alone on the bridge in the dark of night. This would assuredly be a mess.
When S'Nii told Lindsay, the young Viceroy was destroyed. She had stood with Sunny her whole career and in that moment she was devastated. She wanted to leave but S'Nii begged her to stay aboard the Providence. S'Nii told Lindsay that despite their relationship, she trusted her with her life and she was the only one to sit on the helm of the marine transport. S'Nii begged Lindsay to stay. She needed her.
Lindsay was so silent on the bridge. It was like her heart had been stolen. She watched as Saehir and S'Nii, the so-called "Sunny and Shir" of the King's Fleet began to become more public with their affair. Lindsay was destroyed but she was a Viceroy and she was bound by duty. She remains one of the best helmspersons in the King's Fleet.
Deveniss understood why Saehir had left. In the beginning, she was his plaything. She was the focus of his life. He had been little more than the silent pencil pusher in the Epsilon Force but in the King's Fleet, his four hours a day lifestyle was embraced. He had become an almost beloved grandfather to most in the Fleet. He lost that when he became Deputy Commander in Chief. He could see it now. He could see what he had become. It only got worse when he was given Observatory 642 when Admiral Tan left for Starfleet and Paris. He became the commanding officer and little more. He did not care for his delicate flower when the exiled Romulan needed him most.
Here on the Providence, it became worse again. He had been scheming to hurt John Warren and even to hurt Tan. The portly Tan would not hurt a fly. Deveniss was just so hurt that Tan had bested the Tanmesad and had become the darling of the Fleet once more. Deveniss watched as Saehir and S'Nii enjoyed the puppy love stage of romance. They were just lost in each other. He remembered when Saehir looked at him in that way. He was an old man who was given a delicate fairy to care for and what he had done. He had neglected her for revenge. He deserved his fate.
Penny was serving drinks in the Officer's Club when Deveniss came walking in. He saw Lindsay sitting at the table in the back. The Old Selayan walked over and sat down, "Is this seat taken?"
Lindsay just pointed and kind of grunted. Deveniss sat down.
"Tough week.", Deveniss sighed.
"Yep.", Lindsay grunted.
Deveniss then told Lindsay a story about Admiral Viceroy coming in to address the senior command and sitting down but missing the chair and falling on her back. Lindsay had not laughed since the devastating news. She looked at the Selayan, "Thank you, Admiral."
Deveniss looked at her, "I understand that persons of your persuasion like woman because they do not have a desire for the male sex organ. They prefer the use of the tongue for sexual arousal."
"Persons of my persausion?", Lindsay chuckled.
Deveniss looked at the beautiful young lady, "The Selayan people are descendants of snake like creatures seen on the Earth."
"Huh?", Lindsay chuckled.
"Let's just say that snakes are very good with their tongues.", Deveniss flirted.
Lindsay sipped her drink and went back to her PADDs. She had work to do. Deveniss ordered a glass of Picard White and sipped looking at the human helmsperson.
Lindsay looked up and then over to see Sunny and Shir coming into the Officer's Club. She looked at Deveniss, "Ah, what the hell?"
Deveniss smiled. He interlaced his clawed hand into the beautiful young human's.
Lindsay walked on the bridge the next morning. It was the first time S'Nii had seen her smiling since their break up.
"Good morning, Commander.", S'Nii smiled at Lindsay.
"Good morning, Captain.", Lindsay grinned taking her position on the helm.
"Beautiful morning.", S'Nii looked at the viewer.
"Aye, Captain. She sure is.", Lindsay responded.
"Why so chipper, Helmsperson?", S'Nii blurted out.
"Sometimes when lift shows you a fork in the road, you need to take the fork in the tongue instead.", Lindsay winked.
S'Nii looked back puzzled. Allison burst out laughing and pushed Lindsay in the shoulder, "You are a bad girl."
Lindsay winked, "No I am a lucky girl, the bad one here is Admiral Deveniss."
Both girls erupted in laughter. The fact that S'Nii remained lost made it even more funny.
