General Kabarann flew all the way to Paris to grandstand about the use of military vessels on the surface of Medara to perform non-military activities. Her roaring speech was a complete farce.
The vessels were once stored in underground facilities around the city of Camelot in the Round Table. Her filibuster was set to eliminate the use of starships to activate the crystalline form of the Red Shale Dilithium so as the eliminate the Federation market. She was once again looking for a fuel source.
The Klingons had a renewed power hunger after two separate blockades of Tellar Prime and the destruction of the Black Orchid.
The problem for Field Marshal Brown is twofold. The colony charter does not allow for access to the surface by military vessels if other options exist (i.e. The Observatory) and secondly he cannot show favoritism to the Beta Zeta Sector or the King's Fleet despite the urgent need for the Dilithium in the region.
The immediate option was to use the fighter squadron but the same problem existed. No one wanted to test the pressure in the Medara Trench in a fighter.
Both Tchilick Tchilack and Commander T'Zohl offered but Admiral Viceroy turned them both down. He simply could not risk losing pilots of their ability if the fighter could not survive the pressure. The project was about to be abandoned when Kiera Tanus offered to fly the mission.
Vincent at first refused but after some time to ponder, he gave the heartbroken young Gorn hybrid the command codes.
On January 27, 2394, Kiera Tanus became the first fighter pilot ever to fly the Medara Trench. Scott Todd was at the Observatory when she got up from the fighter bay. I don't know who was more excited; her or human lover.
