Vincent took the call from Richard. He tapped the button to close the hovering image of the head of Starfleet Command. Admiral Madison had heard about the Chariot incident and had offered not only the Chariot crew but any member of the King's Fleet the opportunity to return to Starfleet with full rank and privilege. He also withdrew the Chariot from the Fleet command transferring the four nacelle ship back to Starfleet.
Vincent thought they had finally achieved peace in the region with just the pesky pirates to deal with. He never expected the new enemy to be a friend. Within hours of the announcement, the Betazoid Alliance made the same offer to Illyan Coren. Vincent had actually thought he had seen growth in the character of his former friend but when he was told he could return to Betazed as an Admiral, he jumped at the chance and destroyed Bridgette Tchilack by telling her, "Why the hell would I take you with me? You are hideous. I am going home."
Bridgette has joined the wej'veQ engineering department but she is in poor spirits. Vincent felt very sad for her.
Admiral Deveniss had to be ordered by Vincent and Summer to make the announcement. He had at first refused because Monica would be given the opportunity to return to Starfleet as an Admiral. After learning about Illyan, he was terrified when he told his officers. Many hollered in approval at the announcement. Being an officer in a regional fleet is one thing but to be amongst the almost 80,000 vessels in Starfleet is something completely other.
Deveniss was pretty much certain that Monica would leave for Earth. He went down to get a drink and then he was going to bed. Selayans already sleep 16 to 20 hours a day so depressed one may not even awaken until the next day.
Deveniss walked into the quarters he shared with Monica Montgomery. She walked around the corner.
She was definitely not wearing a Starfleet uniform. She looked at Deveniss, "When you picked me over Saehir, I knew I had to pick you over Starfleet."
The old man hugged his human lover tightly. He rarely said anything romantic but he whispered, "I thought I was losing you."
