Richard Madison has always been a bit of a joke in Starfleet. He got the job because of his relationship with Admiral Harper Madison. He has been linked to unsavoury activities in the eyes of the ultra right wing Starfleet and Federation Governing bodies.
Richard may be a lot of things but he understood his role as Chief of Operations on Federation One. Richard activated his transporter code immediately upon the Klingon attack. There was only enough room for four. Richard chose President Alexander Laree, First Lady Hulanen Laree and Admiral Illyan Coren. Richard looked right at Ciccero Veri when he activated the code knowing that his Betazoid friend would be left behind. Ciccero saluted and smiled. The Family Veri had been in disrepute because of their support for the Federation during the Betazoid Alliance era and because Helencia had children with the rogue John Warren long ago. Today, the sacrifice of Ciccero Veri has restored the Veri family.
Taylor banked the Sovereign Class super ship hard and high tailed it away from the devastation.
Padme T'Nley had moved to the colonies to be closer to Christine but had turned into a bitter rival operating the Platform Broadcasting System. She was right up front during the attacks. Christine frantically went from recovered escape pod to escape pod. There was no Padme. There was I Padme!!
Christine slumped to the floor in tears. She had lost a sister. The colonists were once again victims in a larger political universe. Bell came to see Christine, "The House of Kabarann is claiming responsibility and proclaiming Lupac Kabarann as Chancellor of the Klingon Empire. We need you to go live and make the announcement to prevent future attacks on ReykaPenthe or the wej'veQ."
"I just lost Padme!", Christine snapped.
"We have not yet located Admiral Viceroy, Admiral Deveniss or Governor Branson. We may have lost a lot more. Colonel Teero is also confirmed deceased. We need the Klingons to know that we acknowledge the rule of Chancellor Lupac. You have to search your Vulcan half and pull it together and get on all channels as much as the Information Officer of the King's Fleet than as the RBC Correspondent. Get it together, soldier.", Bell reverted to what he knew and understood in the chaos.
Christine stood up, wiped her nose on her arm, "Aye, General."
