“Admiral, the Romulans are going to move on the colony of Gamma Penthe, an launch outpost of the House of Kabarann.”, Saehir was walking back from the Academy offices towards Admiral Tan in the corridor of the new Omega Academy.
“I will inform Admiral Viceroy immediately.”, Tan responded, touching his combadge.
Within moments, the senior staff had convened on the wej’veQ to strategic review the information.
“I do not trust the information.”, Caitlin Wu came walking into the room.
“What harm is there in being prepared? If the House of Larle is able to capture a critical ground soldier launching point, the pendulum will swing in their favor.”
“If the King’s Fleet diverts assets away from the patrol patterns, the weakened line could allow for a Romulan attack. I believe this is the intended outcome of the leaked information by Commander Marrus.”, Caitlin looked at Vincent.
Tan, Nicole and Saehir arrived at the session. Caitlin looked at Nicole, “What is the criminal doing here?”
“I invited her.”, Vincent looked at the Section 31 agent, “In all likelihood, she is about to become Governor of the colony. Her input is therefore essential. Assets diverted to Gamma Penthe will expose Reykja Penthe to the potential of attack.”
“Why should we trust Saehir? She has already accepted responsibility to providing critical patrol pattern information to the Romulan Star Empire to allow for the attack on Rura Penthe.”, Caitlin snapped, looking at Monica for support.
“I was in a different mindset at that time.”, Saehir looked at Caitlin and then glared at Deveniss.
“So you change sides based upon your mood.”, Caitlin snapped.
“So… you change sides based upon your interpretation of the status quo.”, Saehir snapped with Romulan snide and wit.
Caitlin looked at Vincent, “You will put your small fleet at risk on the information provided by a Romulan sympathizer.”
“I have done worse for you.”, Vincent looked at Caitlin.
John arrived from the Quest. Vincent looked at Captain Warren, “I assume you read the briefing document.”
“Aye, Admiral.”, John responded.
“And your observations?”, Vincent asked.
“Commander Marrus served as executive officer aboard the Quest for many months. I never once saw her put the ship or any King’s Fleet assets at risk.”, John looked at Vincent.
“The Romulans will lose big if they use the fighter bombers to drop soldiers into a trap on Gamma Penthe. This could be a major victory in the Klingon civil war and for the Federation supporting House of Kabarann.”, John looked at Vincent.
“This is a yes then?”, Vincent responded.
“Aye, Admiral.”, John responded.
“Deveniss?”, Vincent looked at his new deputy commander in chief.
“I do not trust Saehir. I am not comfortable with risk assets. I vote no.”, Admiral Deveniss looked at the Romulan. Saehir just glared.
“Admiral Tan?”, Vincent looked at his new chief of staff.
“I abstain. I have a bias in favor of Commander Marrus.”, Tan smiled.
“You ol’ dog!”, Nicole punched him in the arm. Everyone laughed.
“Nicole?”, Vincent looked at the lovely young lady.
“I too must abstain. It would be inappropriate for me to vote with the authority of the people. I will wait for the election before taking a position on any political plane.”, Nicole responded, very politically.
“Agent Wu, I will give you the United Federation of Planets Observer vote.”, Vincent looked at Caitlin.
“I vote no.”, Caitlin snarled.
“I think this is worth the gamble.”, Vincent looked at the group. The vote was suddenly deadlocked at 2.
Vincent looked at Tan, “My old friend, unlike Branson, you do not have a political abstention at your disposal. I believe that the vote needs to be decided.”
“Why should he be the deciding vote? He has had his f**king fingers in the Romulan!”, Caitlin snapped.
“Admiral Tan, based upon the observation from Agent Wu, I request that you identify a designate to vote on your behalf.”, Admiral Viceroy ordered.
“I select Captain Tania Branson to vote on my behalf.”, Tan responded.
“That is not better!”, Caitlin snapped.
“In the interests of impartiality, I propose that Professor T’tan, a former head of the Starfleet Judge Advocate General be permitted to vote on behalf of Admiral Tan.”, Nicole offered a potential solution.
“Beam her up!”, Vincent ordered.
Professor T’tan was a bit startled by appearing in the war room of the wej’veQ. She was quickly briefed on the scenario by Vice Admiral Montgomery.
“Commander Marrus presented the Tellar position without malice in the political trial of Nicole Branson. She used facts not observations to present her case and effectively negotiated a settlement. I had no qualms about her motives or her integrity. In light of this finding and taking into account the attack on Rura Penthe, I believe that the King’s Fleet would benefit from her double agent position. I vote in favour of moving to defend Gamma Penthe.”, the Vulcan T’tan observed.
“Thank you, Professor.”, Admiral Vincent Viceroy nodded.
“Inform General Brown. We are putting boots on the ground and direct the vessels to converge on the word of Captain John Warren.”, Vincent ordered.
On November 9, 2395, Three Romulan drop ships were destroyed on route to Gamma Penthe with kill shots being scored by the USS Quasar Quest on two vessels and by the USS / CGV Tanmesad. It is believed that as many as 12000 Klingon soldiers known to support the House of Larle were killed in the incident. The House of Larle has yet to acknowledge the incident but Chancellor Lupac Kabarann is proclaiming a great victory of the Klingon Federation.
Admiral Tan was seen walking down the corridor with the hand of the Romulan Saehir Marrus securely held in his smiling.
Today is a grand day.
