Brigadier William Russo, the Phoenix Fleet Judge Advocate General welcomed them all but it was Commodore Vincent Viceroy who took them to Federation Headquarters. Vincent knew just from the casual conversation that no one wanted to host the trials. The stigmatism created by trying Star Fleet officers for performing their duty would be everlasting.
Vincent knew that these judges did not want to be tied to the conviction either. He learned that they were hear to put the blame on the Phoenix Fleet and for the most part on the Phoenix Colony.
This was made abundantly clear when the judges informed Vincent that he and Vice Admiral Nicole Branson were expected to lead the tribunal.
"What?", Vincent looked puzzled.
"Nicole?", Vincent inquired.
"She is already known for her involvement. People know how she got her job. We can sacrifice her. Everyone in Star Fleet will dislike her if she convicts one of our main officers. In truth, many people dislike her for her choice of lifestyle, for the way she became a Vice Admiral and furthermore because she stood with Admiral William Hunt.", the judge responded.
"This is a nothing colony in the middle of nowhere, Commodore. Do you think the Beta Quadrant means anything?", the judge snarled.
"We need the convictions, but no one wants the heat.", the Judge explained.
Vincent knew his place and the place of his colony in the minds of these men. He shook his head walking from the room.
