Soliel was serving on the USS Roddenberry. The daughter of former USS / CGV Tanmesad Marine Commander Graceland Todd had been a darling of Star Fleet as Marine Commanding Officer aboard the USS Scimitar only to have the ship ripped from beneath her.
Reduced to Marine Executive Officer, Soliel was embarrassed and ashamed of her service. She was belittled by the Marine Commander. The Marine was humbled and depressed.
Commodore Vincent Viceroy is her great uncle and heard about her plight. Vincent asked her to come to help the Phoenix Fleet Command on the colony investigate what is now simply called, "The Incident."
The shooting down of the shuttle has made news in the Phoenix Federation and even the United Federation for the tensions between the two powerful city states. Soliel went to Star Fleet Command and asked for a leave of absence.
Such leave would have to be approved by the regional commanding officer, Captain Alexander Paige. Paige hates the PF for the embarrassment surrounding Colonel Steven Goddard. He told Soliel that she must serve out her term to the Roddenberry. Soliel is a marine and an officer. She sent the reply to Vincent Viceroy. The answer is no.
Soliel then met with her CO. He continued to show her a cold shoulder. Soliel went back to her quarters and contacted the Phoenix Colony. She announced that she was defecting to the PF.
Vincent smiled, "I would expect nothing less from a Viceroy."
"A Viceroy-Todd.", Soliel responded.
"We will send Lt. Caleb Faulkner to pick you up.", Vincent informed the Major.
Soliel arrived at Governor's Station mere hours after the infamous incident. She walked into Station Operations. She looked at Summer, "Major Soliel Viceroy-Todd reporting for duty."
Summer looked at Soliel, "There is no need to shout, Marine."
"Private Viceroy-Todd.", Commodore Tan, the portly Hierarchy Clanner walked into Ops.
"Private?", Soliel snapped.
"The Phoenix Federation does not recognize the rank or service of any Star Fleet Officer.", Tan forrowed his brow.
"What?", Soliel shouted.
Summer looked Tan, "Commodore?"
"Just kidding.", Tan started to laughing. His big belly bouncing up and down.
"Tan!", Summer shouted.
Soliel smiled. Summer looked at Major Viceroy-Todd, "Welcome Major."
"Check in Toots?", Caleb walked in.
Soliel turned around and glared at the pilot.
"I think I will find my own way to the service.", Soliel grumbled.
"Nope. Bell says you're with me.", Caleb laughed.
"Bell?", Soliel inquired.
"Colonel Belvedere Brown, the Head of the Phoenix Defence League.", Caleb responded.
"The "Bell of the Ball"", Soliel had heard of the marine homosexual legend.
"The very same, Toots. Let's go. We gotta a crash site to see.", Caleb responded.
"He is with the fireman?", Soliel looked at Caleb.
"Yep. Playing house in the Village.", Caleb laughed.
Soliel looked Caleb and shook her head. What kind of decision had she made to join this collection of lunatics.
"Major Viceroy-Todd.", Summer hollered.
Soliel turned back, "Yes, Commander."
"We have a priority one message from Captain Alexander Paige about the declaration of your status as AWOL.", Summer warned.
Soliel stood there dumbfounded.
"Do you have a response, Major?", Summer responded.
"Just one...", Soliel walked up to the viewer, looked Paige straight in the eyes and responded.
