Captain Dominic Montgomery has refused to comment on similar testing within the United Federation of Planets but rumors persist that Star Fleet has suffered an integrity failure on its Red Queen Beta Project with the interface failing on the ship. No one is confirming reports of the loss of the USS London near Izar in the Alpha Quadrant running an AI Integration System but the loss of the London has prompted Romulan Investigation as well as an appearance by the Vulcan Observer in the region.
In an attempt to deflect attention away from the loss of the USS London, the United Federation of Planets and the Federation Broadcasting Network have put extensive energy into the coverage of the failure of the Phoenix Colony AI Server, the largest of the AI projects going so far as to call Vice President Nicole Branson and Phoenix Colony Governess T'tan of Vulcan reckless and dangerous for allowing such an experiment to occur. The editorial piece has called for a complete review of the colony, its charter and its existence as a member of the Phoenix Federation.
The gateway to the Beta Quadrant is seen as something of immense value and the existence of enriched Dilithium in the Typhon Expanse is very valuable to the United Federation of Planets and after two attempts to take the colony by force, it appears that these people would like to take the colony by a political move.
The Romulans have refused to comment on the integrity of Daise Lagga but the AI operating the city of Vorta'Rome and have promised a further demonstration of its workability.
A detailed review of the AI process reveals that William and Amanda Hunt may have done the right thing by beginning the development process in the same way that a human would develop; as a child. The child-like Red Queen, the mischievious Samantha has been given time to expand her knowledge and control and not given so much right away. This strategy appears to have made Samantha more and more powerful. Larger systems with larger responsibilities like the Phoenix Colony Server, the Giant or now the USS London AI have both failed because of their immense responsibilities. It is simply too much too fast.
Samantha and to a lesser extent Athena of the T-Rex may be saved because they have less to do right now. As they grow in power, they can take on more and more responsibility. This should be the protocol for AI development. Start small....
