For the past four decades, the Corens and Larees have controlled the Betazoid Alliance. Before Illyan and Alexander, their parents had established the relationships necessary to keep power within the families. Like the Viceroys and Todds of Earth, the goal was to control the space forces and ground forces together.
The alliance continues today will Illyan and Loiza and Alexander and Hulanen. The families have always been encouraged to intermingle and to wed. Even in divorce, it occurs with Marcus and Elizabeth now chumming around. Illyan and Alexander make it a strong practice to encourage these relationships.
Autumn Laree has been a rebel and a troublemaker. She left Betazed to serve first in Star Fleet and then to serve in the Cardassian Union aboard the Tanmesad. Illyan has longed to turn her talents into something more "loyal" to the family.
Illyan has also been lobbied to hurt Branson on an ongoing basis by Elizabeth Coren. He wanted and needed her loyalty. When Taleen Tanus came to see Admiral Illyan Coren with her plan, he was very intrigued.
He could get Autumn's loyalty. He could hurt Branson and he could get the Emissary back with the Alliance. It was simple. Convince Autumn to seduce Magenta and then get Branson to discover the seduction.
Autumn wanted approval from Illyan. She also saw the beauty and magic in the miracle of Magenta. The plan worked perfectly.
Taleen led Nicole down the hallway to discover Autumn and Magenta just getting dressed again after their tryst. Nicole was devastated. Taleen held her as she cried.
Illyan and Elizabeth watched with a smirk. This was exactly as planned.
