Ambassador Hulanen Laree was on the surface to see Nicole Branson about the name of the Academy. Hulanen knew that the Klingons had given Nicole the chance to rechristen the colony yo distract her from taking a run at Carleton Porter. The goal was however to get the colony moving away from its Klingon heritage. Hulanen wanted to name the colony after Betazoid to help with the restoration of the expansion policies of the Betazoid Alliance. There was a straight up need for the rest of the universe to know that the Betazoid Alliance was strong and growing again after the Romulan attacks in the Alpha Quadrant.
Admiral Alexander Laree was once revered for standing up to the Vulcans and the Empire of V'Ros but the Romulan blockade and the subsequent need to have the Federation support to survive crippled the once mighty Alliance and left it not permitted to use its symbols or fly its flags.
Such is not the case now, the Romulans have once again retreated and the Federation has backed down on some of its demands. The Betazoid Alliance is acting as a regional fleet operations group like the King's or many others.
Having a Betazoid name on the Academy would be very valuable to this expansion. Hulanen also was given the opportunity to speak on her favourite topic; interspecies relations.
Hulanen talked about cold blooded reptilian races like the Cardassiqns being well endowed but cold on insertion. She talked about the Selayan forked tongue and had several school girls blushing. She talked about the small Gorn size and ways for other humanoids to compensate including toys or other points of entry. She talked about fur babe brought out quite a few snickers when she talked about the Caitians and the Anticans. Most of the students would never even dream of trying it.
Hulanen talked about the now infamous stink bomb picture of Dessa Leo. She reminded the students that the racial stereotypes are unfair in a world where all races are welcomed. Hulanen corrected the observation, " Although the progenitor of the dominant species in the Caitian Mephitidae is a skunk, the ability to scent from the rectal gland has long since been lost to history. There are few remaining features from the original host other than the prominent tail, the black fur and the now often trimmed whiskers. Many members of all the Caitian races also shave their faces."
