Nicole was so hung over. She had not ran since the end of the Phoenix Marathon but she wanted to this morning. It was the one time in the last two months that she had a clear head. She hated what had happened to her. She hated herself for betraying her loyalties to Commodore Surul and she hated herself for letting her body and soul be pimped by Commodore Viceroy.
Nicole started running and there she saw Amy Turin. She had not seen her coach since her running days. She never saw Amy as a potential partner. There was a running relationship but she felt a bizarre kinship with Amy, a closeness she had not known since Tacita Teero left the colony.
Amy had taken the ribbing from her crewmates. She had been told all the stories about Nicole and the Vice Admiral's sexual orientation. Amy never saw Nicole in that way. She was her coach and her friend. Lately, without Nicole around, Amy found herself thinking of the many mornings running together. Nicole and her had even shared a good luck kiss once. It was nothing but Amy replayed it over and over again in her mind.
She had not seen Nicole in over a week when she saw her running. Amy was suddenly was running beside Nicole. Amy had heard about the Surul incident. There are no secrets on the colony. Amy suddenly found her fingers enlaced with Nicole's. There were no words spoken. They were just running together.
They sprinted back to Nicole's Little Lakaria home and fell onto the grass in each other's arms. Both laughed gleefully. Nicole had not felt like that since Orchid rescued her from her depression and nearly wisked her back into the role of Governor. Amy stood up and smiled, "Are you running tomorrow?"
Nicole smiled, "Every morning at 0500 am, just like my coach ordered."
Amy went back to her apartment. She stood in the shower for an hour. She washed herself intensely. She hated the fact that she was attracted to Nicole now. She somehow thought it could be washed off.
Nicole too showered but she thought of something far different...
