Tan was still trying to learn his new station. It was just like Colonel John Warren trying to figure out the Klingon ship. The Klingon battle station was hardly Starbase 756 except in name only.
Tan had been so busy he had not had much time to spend with Summer. He finally had a moment and went to see her. Her quarters were empty. Summer is the executive officer of the station. She must have had work to do.
Tan, though disappointed went back about his business. He was walking down the corridor when he saw Summer coming from the quarters of Admiral Illyan Coren. Summer and Coren had had a torrid affair prior to the pulse. Tan was heartbroken.
He looked at Summer, "Not very cold up here."
Summer could feel the hurt in his words. She was freezing after the Pulse and truly had enjoyed time spent with the burly Tan but he is right. Up here she wanted something more. She wanted the connection only another Betazoid could provide.
Summer looked at Tan, "We had some fun times, didn't we, Admiral?"
Tan hated the chit chat tone of her words. She was right. He was so alone on Station Destiny. She had been a big part of his life in the Federation. He simply nodded and went about his business. He was alone again.
The fighter squadron had been badly fragmented by the Klingon-Romulan Cheron System conflict. Colonel Teero may have been able to provide new fighters but he could not repair the damage caused by losing the station. This group questioned everything and to make matters worse, Colonel Trmel headed to the surface once the guerilla war started leaving them without a leader.
Captain D'Tall stepped back in to at least keep the group together. She had done a nice job once the squadron was restored to Starbase 756. She had been there for Admiral Tan because he had been there for her. D'Tall lost her family on the Omega Colony and has struggled with command but Tan has always been there to provide a home and job.
D'Tall was in Ishka's when Summer came walking in. Admiral Tan came walking in and sat down with the Orion. Summer came walking over, "What are you doing?"
"Space can be a very lonely place, Captain Vasa.", D'Tall smiled.
Summer was furious. She wanted Illyan but secretly she wanted no one to have Tan so if it went sideways, she would always have a place to go.
Summer stormed away.
Late that evening, she was returning to her own quarters when she saw D'Tall heading up to the fighter decks with no shirt on. She thought she was alone in the corridor and quickly covered up when she saw Summer.
"What the hell are you doing?", Summer demanded.
D'Tall winked, "Sometimes there are a lot worse things than bouncing on the pudgy middle finger of the Admiral."
