Grace watched as Mac and Brenna played in the grass. She looked at Nicole, "Is this how you thought thing would work out when you left the cozy office of Fleet Awards in the Omega Academy? You had been given rank and authority out of the Montgomery trial. You could have stayed there. There would have been no Orchid and the tragic murder by Addison Laree. There could have been no family wars with the Corens."
"There could have been no Tellarites.", Nicole interrupted.
Grace grinned, "You would simply be known as a naive little girl abused by her superiors. You would not be known for six colonies and two genocides. You stood at the gateway when the Retarnee took the Phoenix. You watched the exodus from Cheron VI, the first Camelot. Two genocides... You have ran through many Tellarites. They are dead. Many others are dead."
"And why are you here?", Nicole looked at her.
"Can we go down to the river?", Brenna interrupted.
"Stay off the ice. It is not thick enough with the warmth from town.", Nicole ordered.
The children ran off. Grace stood up, "You asked why I am here? I have but a simple answer. I think I love you."
Nicole looked at her, "Even if that love leads to your death."
Grace rolled over in her bed in the beautiful wooden city of Camelot. She looked out the window as the sun came up. She thought about the family Prang'Laar, the family Pan'Taar and the house of Gral. They had lost their daughters to Branson and the colonies. She replayed the words of Nicole Branson over and over in her head. Was it worth dying for?
Was it?
