Deveniss sat in the room with Tan and Nicole. He looked at them, "I think we should let him out."
Nicole looked at Deveniss, "You can't be serious. Lanec Trmel is a dangerous criminal."
"To the natives in the Camelot Cree, he is a political prisoner who is being held by the white man. They protest everyday. Where is going to go?", Deveniss looked at the pair.
"Admiral, if we do this, it has to be a hearing so we can hear from both sides of the table.", Tan looked at Deveniss.
"I can support that. The Andorian Armada needs an Andorian loyal to their cause here. They will not let him stray to far or risk his life. He is better off here.", Deveniss looked at the leadership of the King's Fleet.
In the courtroom, Pasha looked at Lanec, "I know you and Zek have riled these people but you are a criminal sentenced to 25 years in prison for multiple violent crimes. You should never be permitted on the streets again."
"Sentenced by the white man and his justice!", Zek shouted riling the courtroom.
Hulanen shouted for order.
Lanec looked at Pasha, "At least I am not a sellout like you. I stand with my people. I stand up for them. I am a proud Andorian General."
"You are a decisive son of a bitch. Had you worked with the Federation, the Andorians could have meant something again. Look at the Betazoid Alliance.", Pasha shouted.
Hulanen demanded all parties stop immediately. She ordered all references to the Andorians removed from the record. She reminded the attendees that they were to remain inconspicuous.
Varno stood up, "May I speak, your honour?"
The court recognized Mr. Thua'ra Varno, resident of the Renaissance Trailer park.
"Lanec, I know you.", he began.
"I was like you. I led the Cardassian Union. I led the Obsidian Order. We spread our will through might. We were powerful but we never achieved dominance. You cannot achieve dominance through oppression. I know that now.", Varno spoke eloquently.
"Is there a point to this?", Zek interrupted.
Varno smiled and continued, "I know that I have struggled as an officer in the cars. I was not happy in command of the Tanmesad in the 63rd Precinct or the King's County Sheriff's Office. I just was not built to do that job but I learned a lot about police work and evidence."
"Again is there a point?", Zek asked.
Hulanen asked Varno to make his point.
Thua'ra looked at Hulanen, "Matio Kira shot me. I know that that is not admissible here but we accept it as a fact. I know that Deveniss has long believed that Deedee Vereen was not a suicide. Someone had to step on the lever for the gallows to work. I believe that Matio Kira has set herself up as some kind of avenging angel. She tried to kill me. I believe she killed D'Vreenak Suran in a misguided belief that she was ridding the world of those who committed evil. My point, Chief Ishka is that if you let Lanec out, she is going to kill him."
Lanec burst out laughing, "You are a fool. She loves me."
"I am warning you.", Varno glared at Lanec.
Hulanen released Lanec Trmel into the custody of the Plains Cree Band.
Vash called Thua'ra about seven hours later. He asked his mentor to come out to the reserve. August and Winona were working feverishly to keep Lanec alive. He had been shot in the chest and in the temple. Thua'ra realized almost immediately that Matio did not miss his head as he had first believed. She had done so on purpose to give the Cardassian a chance at redemption.
Thua'ra got on his phone right away. Lanec needed Sympathy. She was the only one who could save him. She had learned the lessons.
When Dr. Ford met the ambulance at the Camelot Health Care Center, she looked at Lanec. Thua'ra looked at Sympathy, "This is a test. This is what the King's Fleet was founded upon: Redemption. This is our chance."
Sympathy looked at Thua'ra, "Do no harm."
She followed August into the operating room. Matio arrived a little later. She looked at Varno, "Some are worth saving."
He sat in silence.
