The House of Suran is known to the student body of the Younger Academy. D'Terah Suran once headed the Tal Shiar and for a brief period, he served as the regional Romulan Praetor. He had often taken a broad anti-Federation approach and unlike the Romulan T'Ros, he was willing to act on that superiority complex.
His daughters T'Sir and T'Arren had followed in his footsteps but T'Arren chose to live amongst the races as the Mayor of Rhodes and was changed by the experience. She chose to stay behind. She spent the day being questioned about the Tanmesad incident. She was supposed to be giving a lecture on Romulan interaction strategies but instead spent her time answering questions about the incident and the intelligence test by the Romulan commander.
T'Arren deserves a lot of credit for facing the music. She stood in there and answered all the questions when she could have simply went back to her actual lecture notes. One of the students reminded the former Romulan Sub-Commander and Romulan Mayor that Romulans are expected to behave, dress and act appropriately. T'Arren reminded her students that it is this highly structured approach that leads to immigration to the colonies. The room erupted in laughter as T'Arren Suran stood in front of her class in traditional Romulan military garb.
T'Arren was thinking about her new found freedom on the colony and about the Vulcan Purity Movement and the rush to make people act in a certain way. She also thought of the laughter from her students. She needed to express her freedom.
Phil Todd was feeling sorry for himself and his Gorn appearance as he sat in the bar enjoying a beer. T'Arren walked in to join the reason she had stayed behind when Rhodes was frozen out. Phil turned around to see T'Arren. He never thought that he would be able to land such a beauty in his Gorn skin.
T'Arren was certainly exercising her freedom.
