I have been at this for a long time. I have covered Federation and Star Fleet activities from the Breen Wars, through two occupations of the Phoenix Colony and through the Phoenix Liberation. I was not born yesterday.
This morning, I received a package from Cleveland Powers, Mayor of Wells City detailing his involvement with John Love, the human trafficking mobster and providing specific details about the involvement of Vice Admiral Nicole Branson in the process including selection of appropriate refugees including ideal body type, ideal personality type and resale value.
This was the perfect opportunity. In my career in service to the Omega Fleet, the Omega Colony and now to the Omega News Network in support of the Phoenix Colony, I have been openly critical of Vice Admiral Nicole Branson. I know that she is a moron. She is the lesbian art student who somehow, over and over again seems to land on her feet. It boggles my mind how she has been integral in the rescue of the colony, not only once but twice. She is resoundingly incompetent yet continues to not only survive but thrive. I believe this is why I was chosen for this plant of information. The person or persons involved believed that I would be so overzealous as to bring her down in one fell swoop of the Omega News Network.
The truth is a story so flush with information is rarely truthful. A reporter’s instinct knows that in order to unearth a grand scheme, the great plot, work must be done and that work is hard; requiring great hours and efforts. It is not delivered in a package by Amy Turin.
My reporter’s instinct almost immediately kicked in and after a few calls it soon became apparent. Cleveland Powers had been promised immunity in his involvement with the human trafficking scheme in exchange for implicating Vice Admiral Nicole Branson. This request came from the office of Governor Skylight Greene but not from the Governor herself. She would never be so foolish as to become directly involved so early in her term. Dr. Greene’s problems with Vice Admiral Branson stem back to a failed relationship and to a bitterness felt over the death of Dr. Justice Coren, killed in the Vulcan Occupation. Dr. Greene is a woman scorned. Hell hath no fury.
It is with great pain that I confirm that Vice Admiral Nicole Branson was not involved in the human trafficking scheme and point the finger at the office of the Governor for their involvement in the attempted charges. Now, due to an immunity bargain, Cleveland Powers will not be prosecuted either.
In my discussions, unofficially of course, with Parisian Mayor Cole Porter, it is my belief that Mr. Powers knew that this would never have garnered any merit and used the wanton zealous of the office of the Governor to protect his own interests. Past experience tells us that Mr. Powers is not without intelligence and not above the use of such to manipulate the situation to his benefit.
