Nicole was in her office at the community hall when John and Russ showed up. Nicole was happy to see the Task Force Commander. She believed this to be a social call. John almost felt terrible explaining to the mayor that this was not a social call. There had been irregularities discovered implicating the office of the mayor and the misappropriation of funds scheduled to go to the Camelot Cree.
Nicole tried to plead innocence but the evidence was very real. Pasha met Nicole first at the RCMP station and then at the prison. Pasha tried to understand how this was possible asking questions about Keljeska and Charlene to see if they could have had access to the funds or accounts. Nicole refused to implicate the ladies. Pasha asked Hulanen to keep Nicole in the prison to prevent her from running to 2396. Hulanen agreed that Nicole was a potential temporal flight risk.
Jessie came down to the prison crying for Nicole's release. Pasha told the humanized Tellarite that the evidence was overwhelming. Nicole may be a criminal. Jessie begged for her freedom saying she could not live in 2016 without her guide.
John invited Chief Pran to view the evidence to ask the Camelot Cree Chief to testify that the band never received the funds. The humanized Breen looked at the evidence. Pran looked at John and described a tactic used by the Dominion to discredit a tribal leader of the Breen to cause the people of the Breen to reach out to the Dominion for help. The tactic was taken from an old Tal Shiar effort. The tribal leader told John that he had heard the Romulans complain about the use of the Wormhole Travel to move vessels.
Though the Romulans do not have intricate knowledge of the Xact Wormhole Mapping process, they do know that the use of a temporal constant is critical to serve as a constant; something for a traveller outside time to hang onto to be able to get back to the appropriate universe. The Romulans know that life in 2016 is significantly harder than life in the utopia of 2396 and people would not go without strong leadership. People trust Nicole Branson and the King's Fleet. She, Deveniss and Tan give them something to cling to. Discrediting her and forcing her out of the colony will cause others to leave for 2396 as well greatly limiting the use of wormhole travel.
John listened very closely to the transplanted Breen. He knew that the Breen may be right but how would he prove it?
Pasha and Toni briefed Admiral Viceroy on the evidence across time. Vincent frowned but told the ladies to proceed. The concern was to just ignore the charges may bring other scrutiny forcing the colonists to have to move again.
Nicole was in big trouble now.
