Nicole had just taken a tongue lashing from the Fleet Command over the Omega revelations regarding further access to the Omega Molecules within the geo-thermal core of the Omega Planet here at Outpost 294. She had been given the updates to the Star Fleet General Order and the Omega Directive by Admiral Tim Veltkamp.
Nicole then met with her Chief Engineer and her Executive Officer. The trio walked amongst the vibrating tubes that were part of the Omega Farm, a joint project between the Romulans of Rome and Public Works Commission of Omega Prime.
Nicole then informed Commander Teero and Admiral Viceroy that she planned to continue the project. She also planned to continue to use the Co-operative study students to operate the Omega Farm and to interact with the Romulans. She told the command staff that if they were going to build a "home", these people all needed to interact socially, as well as at work.
She told them that they could withdraw their support for the program if they liked. She would not hold it against them and their formal objections would be included in the report.
Vincent was slow to respond. He thought his answer through very carefully. Finally, he responded, over the gentle hum of the Omega energy collectors, "I believe the potential of the project is worth the risk. Even if we end up destroying the planet, the research here at Rome and at Outpost 294 will be worth the effort."
Nikki's heart stirred. She was not prepared to die for this but understood the risks.
Acrylos also voiced his support. He looked at Nikki. "If we can stabilize even one molecule, we could power the entire Omega Fleet for a thousand centuries. These collection units are running three cities and they are operating only on the vibrations of the molecules and not their stability. The potential is incredible. If the damn Borg could do it, we too should be able to."
"I am in, all in.", responded Acrylos.
Nicole was pleased with the conversation. The next phase is to determine how best to keep the project "Top Secret"
This will come with a lot of planning.
