"This is Christine T'Nley live from Rome, Omega where a large portion of the Romulan City is ablaze as a result of taping once more the Omega Core of the planet. Commander T'Ros of Romulus confirms that at least four members of the Scientific Contingent have been killed and damage has been done to several Omega Farms around the City and around Veltkamp Village as the planet once again vents pressure from interference with the Omega Molecules at the Geo-Thermal Core. This report has learned that Rear Admiral Nicole Branson held a secret meeting with Admiral Vincent Viceroy and Commander Acrylos Teero to formalize plans to continue to research and use the Omega Energy Source despite the incident involving the Branson Bullet in the Northern Hemisphere of the Omega Planet.", Christine spoke so fast, she was almost out of breath.
Nicole stood in her office looking across the River Covington to see Rome on fire. There was nothing she could do. She did not want to expose herself for the Omega Research. She had already been chastised for not destroying the Omega Molecule when it was first discovered by Laaker Teero and for not following the Star Fleet Omega Protocol.
Both she and Vincent agree that the energy potential is simply too great to miss out upon. The research must go on.
Christine next grabbed Romulan Student, T'Liama who informed Ms. T'Nley that her mother and father were amongst those who were killed. She was devastated. She had no where else to go. Rumors already swirled that T'Ros was about to blame everything on the Scientists and Rear Admiral Nicole Branson with the Romulan Star Empire or the Romulan Omega Molecule Experiment taking no responsiblities for the fire, its loses or the threat to the Omega Academy.
Christine spoke with ferocity about how the Omega Fleet can allow the damn Art Student to run the most dangerous research project in the history of the fleet. She chastised Vincent Viceroy, screaming "You should know better."
Laaker Teero and Acrylos Teero were able to help quell the fire and limit the damage only to the main research labratory. Acrylos also spent time on the Omega Collection Farms getting them back on stream.
Christine and now the Romulan Consulate is calling for Nicole to resign over the incident. Christine was no longer just the Information Officer, she had become a political activist calling for the head of Nicole Branson over the deaths of 4 scientists and over the exposure of nearly 50,000 students and worse yet the nearly 3 million inhabitants of Omega Prime, Veltkamp Village and the Romulan City of Rome.
Christine was totally adamant in her subspace log headline....
And Nikki fiddled while Rome BurnedAn obvious reference to the decadence of the incompetent Nero of Rome so many centuries earlier.
Vincent went into Nicole's Office. She was watching the news and crying. She cried a lot; too much. Vincent had brought the student, T'Liama with him. Nicole walked around the desk and walked up to her and just hugged her.
It was surprising how valuable that was. It was surprising how sweet it made T'Liama, a Romulan feel. Everyone had been shoving mics in her face and demanding a comment and the most powerful person on the planet gave her what she really needed. She had just lost her parents. She needed someone to give her a hug.
T'Liama, A Romulan burst into tears. Nicole was already crying and the ladies just stood there hugging.
Vincent brushed by them and began informing Nicole about the Romulan Consolate complaints and about the fire being 100% under control. Nicole was not listening. T'Liama needed her attention right now.
The city would wait. The colony would wait. This young lady had lost her parents.
Though Star Fleet, its protocols and the chain of command must be the most important procedures in any fleet operation, this was a time for something else. Something only Nicole would understand.
Vincent actually smiled as Nicole wiped the tears from T'Liama's eyes. Nicole is far stronger than her tearful exterior lets on. She is special.
