Marcus had just finished giving Veronica a peek into the cramp engineering station at the rear of the ship, explaining how the interceptor had been converted from impulse drive only to Warp Drive.
“……The warp nacelles are imbedded in the wings. It increased the weight dramatically, but the power increase more than compensated for it.”
Veronica pretended to absorb all the technical jargon. Actually she found herself just enjoying listing to him speak. The AI called out over the com. “Urgent message from XON Mr. Dinn. Immediate reply requested.”
“XON is calling you?” Veronica raised an eyebrow.
‘If you’ll excuse me.” And Marcus made his way back forward to the cockpit. ‘Open channel.”
XON came on the view screen. “Sorry to interrupt your trip Boss, but I was sure you’d want to see this.”
“What have you got?”
“Look for your self.” And XON begin transmitting the auto reports that were prepared from the thousands of probes planted in the Klingon city. There was no mistake. Communications describing weapons receipts and manufacture were up over 500 percent. Militia meetings were being held every day as opposed to once a week. Some where hourly.
Marcus leaned back and rubbed his chin. “I hate it when I’m right.”
“What should we do boss?”
“Send the intel to Branson and Commodore Vicory. Right away.”
“And when they ask how we got this?”
“Tell them I’ll be back in a few hours. They can grill me then.”
“You got it boss.” And the channel closed.
Veronica came up behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “You look worried. Is there a problem?”
“Computer, return course for Phoenix colony, Maximum speed.” He got up and looked at Veronica with sad eyes. “The Klingons are mobilizing for another assault on the colony. We have to go back.”
‘Of Course.” She returned to the lounge and he followed her.
“They will come after Dexter Industries for sure, now that Mathews involvement in the Wall was made public.” She said.
“Of that you can be sure. Mathew was right after all."
"I hope Branson is happy." Veronica let out with venom in her voice.
