Captain John Warren stood on the bridge of the USS Wrath of Prometheus looking at the huge virtual casket in space, the outer ring of Governor's Station hovering there. He shook his head in disbelief. John heard the proximity alarms begin flashing as the Klingon Bird of Prey appeared out of cloak. He screamed, "Battle Stations."
The war was about to begin in space. John knew it. On the surface, everyone knew it. John also knew another thing as he heard the Klingon Commander screaming on the COMM link in Klingon. He turned to his staff, "The Prometheus is undersized. This is gonna be a problem."
"Not if I can help it.", Captain Poteat jumped in from the Archangel as the Battle Group went live on continuous COMM link.
"Glad to hear it.", John replied sitting in the Captain's chair. John was mortified as he watched the main viewer as a second Bird of Prey decloaked. The Daedelus and the Prometheus were definitely no match for two Birds. John took a huge breath and stood up one more time, "Shields up. Hold your fire."
The Klingons began shouting about surrender. John was at a loss. He was literally within a whisker of surrender when a third Federation ship appeared in space dropping out of warp. The Rhodes Island Class USS Providence appeared.
"Commodore Viceroy put out a call. We have responded.", newly promoted Captain Vanessa Sanders announced.
John smiled, "Glad to have you aboard."
John motioned to cut off the comm-link. He looked at Captain S'Nii, "Even with the Rhodes Island Class, we are no match for these big birds."
Captain S'Nii looked at Captain John Warren, "Captain Warren, you are relieved of command"
"What the hell are you talking about?", John snapped.
"Captain Warren, the Vulcan Republic assumes command of the USS Wrath of Prometheus on behalf of the independent colony of the Villa.", Captain S'Nii ordered.
"What the F**k!?", John snapped.
"I refuse.", John snapped.
"I think you will change your mind.", S'Nii responded.
The image of a beautiful sovereign appeared in high orbit behind the Providence bringing the battle group to four ships.
Captain S'Nii ordered the Comm-link turned on and pointed to the sovereign.
"This is General John Smith of the Jarada announcing the arrival of Commodore Vincent Viceroy and civilian Vice President Nicole Branson.", General Smith announced.
"Captain John Warren, at the request of Phoenix Colony and the King Battle Group, your presence is requested over here.", Nicole ordered.
Before John could answer, Lindsay beamed the ragged Captain to the new Sovereign. Captain S'Nii looked at Lindsay, "Well done, my Number One."
Lindsay winked.
John looked at Nicole and Vincent, "She is a fine ship. What do you call her?"
Commander T'Zohl, the beautiful Vulcan walked into the bridge area, "We shall call her Quasar Quest."
John bit his bottom lip as his former Flight Commander looked at him and smiled.
Nicole looked at Captain John Warren, "USS Quasar Quest, flag ship of the King's Battle Group in service to the Phoenix Colony, centerpiece of the Phoenix Federation. Send these freaking Klingon's packing!!"
The Klingon Battle Group was sighted on Star Date 66765.75 by the USS Wrath of Prometheus, and by the next hour, Commodore Vincent Viceroy, military commander of the Phoenix Colony, was convinced that a major battle was at hand. By the afternoon, Captain John Warre, aboard his flagship (the sovereign USS Quasar Quest) had his Task Group (The King's Battle Group) formed up near Governor's Station to meet the Klingon attack.
The King's Battle Group consisted of four major ships. In front was Captain Richard Poteat's Daedelus, the “USS Archangel”. Just to their right was the smallest of the ships, Captain Vanessa Sanders Rhodes Island, the "USS Providence". To the left were the Vulcans and their new ship, the "USS Wrath of Prometheus". The battle group is supported by Governor's Station.
Shortly before midnight, Vice President Nicole Branson sent Warren a message from the Phoenixic Fleet Headquarters indicating that the Klingon flagship was now an acceptable target. This was based on a "formal approval from President William Hunt" obtained by subspace message.
Warren was not enthusiastic about a night engagement with the Klingons forces, despite his new force outclassing most of the Klingon battleships, feeling that his crews were not adequately trained for such an action. Shortly after his discussion with Poteat, Warren asked Viceroy for permission to head west during the night to reach what would be an ideal launch position for an all-out aerial assault on the enemy force at dawn.
However, Viceroy refused. Throughout the run-up to the battle he had been concerned that the Klingons would try to draw his main fleet away from the landing area using a diversionary force, and would then make an attack around the flank of the Battle group — an “end run” — hitting the invasion over Governor's Station.
Viceroy was conscious that Klingon operational plans frequently relied heavily on the use of decoying, diversionary forces. Ironically, however, on this occasion there was no such aspect to the Klingon plan. There was no ruse, no diversionary force.
With Branson and Viceroy aboard, the USS Quasar Quest engaged the 2 Klingon Birds of Prey and Captain John Warren did not disappoint. The devastation assualt led to the destruction of the lead vessel. Commander T'Zohl amazing piloting ability made legendary on the original Quasar Quest and made enduring by her service to the USS / CGV Tanmesad brought the Quest around as the gift from the Jarada built the amazing specs of the master engineer Acylos Teero of Bajor began its second attack run.
The Double Q ripped through the haul of the second ship leaving her listless in space. John tapped his combadge, "Captain Sanders, since you came so far, this one is for you."
Vanessa got a huge grin on her face as the Providence Captain engaged her systems and the Rhodes Island ripped the Bird of Prey into three large pieces in space. Vanessa turned to Monty Viceroy, her Executive Officer, "Its good to be home."
Monty smiled and patted her on the back, "Its good to be home."
On this day, February 27, 2389, the King's Battle Group, in service to the Phoenix Colony under the orders of Operation Omega scored the first decisive Phoenix Federation victory at the Phoenix Colony and the most important victory since the Station Sparta's assualt at New Terra.
Nicole looked at Vincent, "2 to beam to the surface."
Vincent smiled, "Air Supremacy has been secured. Let the ground war begin..."
