I was there for the press conference to announce the acceptance of Omega Academy Valedictorian D'Tall of Orion to the position of First Officer aboard the station, Deep Space 15. When she never showed up, I simply stayed for a coffee. I would be mortified and scooped by the Federation News Network in the reporting that D'Tall's husband, H'Royl had committed a murder-suicide killing her children and then himself. I cannot believe I missed the scoop.
This is when I heard from Bobbi-Lee that Captain Trista Coren, the injured Captain of the destroyed USS Christmas Wish of the King's Fleet had agreed to join the Faculty of the Omega Academy. This was a coup for the Academy. She is a huge talent both as a Captain and as a physician and she has field experience, something Rear Admiral Nicole Branson could never give these students.
I like Bobbi-Lee a lot. I still worry about someone so young with Admiral Vincent Viceroy but she is a great young lady. She runs BLACK, perhaps the finest coffee house in the entire universe during the day and then operates the Commune, a fantastic club at night. It is hard to believe she and Mary Lou were once Earth party girls. They have done an outstanding job out here.
Trista came in alone, still limping badly but greatly improving. She sat down and ordered a coffee. I was going to go over to welcome her when Nicole came in and sat down. The girls chatted a bit and Nicole ordered a coffee. Nicole broke down into tears when she told Trista about the H'Royl incident. She was always crying. Silly, lovey-dovey artsy lesbian. I have little use for her.
I admired Trista Coren. She is from a powerful Betazed Family, her father Admiral Illyan Coren is a great man. She has his renowned strength serving as Captain of the USS Florence Nightinggale medical support ship, the USS Christmas Wish. I wanted to get to know her better.
I was mortified when Trista slid her chair around and hugged Nicole. At first I thought she was just comforting the sobbing Commander and then she kissed her on the forehead. Damn, not her too.
Trista and Nicole left holding hands. I could not believe my eyes. This colony is definitely open to everyone; to all kinds.
