Orchid sat on the stoop rocking baby Trista and looking at the stars. She was thinking of Nicolas and the horrors of the war between the rebels of the Terran Federation and the Terran Empire. Little Brenna came out and sat on the stoop.
"Mommy Flower?", she looked up.
Orchid did not answer. Brenna tugged on her shirt. Orchid looked down, "Why do you call me, Mommy Flower?"
"My mom used to call you Flower or at least the other you.", Brenna replied.
"Why did she do that?", Orchid asked.
"She used to say that your bloom brought beauty to every room.", Brenna replied.
Orchid felt a warmth at the words, "Your mother loved Orchid Coren."
"She really did.", Brenna replied.
"Me too.", Brenna looked up at Orchid.
"I am not attracted to your mother in that way.", Orchid responded.
"Why?", Brenna asked bluntly.
"Your mother is a woman.", Orchid responded.
"So. It does not matter if you are in love.", Brenna responded.
"It does matter, sweetie. Someday you will know.", Orchid grinned.
She got up. She did not want to have this conversation with the child. She went inside. Brenna followed her.
"Mommy Nicole. I am going to the park.", Brenna hollered.
"Be back in an hour for supper.", Nicole hollered back.
She walked into the living area to find Orchid holding the child.
"Hello, Doctor.", Nicole sounded so professional and business-like.
Orchid put the baby down on the floor. She wrapped her in a blanket.
Orchid looked at Nicole, "Dr. Skylight Greene and Dr. Magenta Coren have offered me a position at the Dr. Leonard McCoy Institute. Medicine is medicine in any universe. I would like to take the position. I would like you to help me look after Baby Trista."
Nicole nodded. She wished that she could just grab Orchid and throw her on the floor tearing her clothes off. Orchid looked at the baby, "She has both our genetics you know. She is us."
The words made it even worse for Nicole. She put her arm on the shoulder of Dr. Orchid Coren. The very touch made Nicole feel better. Orchid looked at Nicole. She could feel the love in her eyes. She could feel the warmth in her heart.
Orchid looked at Nicole, "What's for supper?"
"Whatever you like.", Nicole grinned, "We have an amazing replicator."
Orchid looked at Nicole as she walked towards the kitchen. Orchid reached out and pinched her butt. Nicole turned around. Orchid would often pinch Nicolas' butt on their Terran Rebellion ship. She had never touched a girl before. Orchid looked at Nicole, "Not half bad."
