Vincent felt a kinship with Nicole. Like Admiral Tim Veltkamp and President William Hunt he felt the need to protect her. No one is quite certain why that is. Nicole has that ability. People see her as the victim. This is the very trait that aggrevates Christine T'Nley and so many others.
Vincent heard the stories of Monique Warren and the horrible last 2 weeks. These were very dark days for the colony. Everyone lived in fear that Star Fleet Intelligence was about to do something stupid. Vincent needed Nicole at her best. He had watched little Brenna discovered three years ago in the experimental lab of Sovendara, the Salarian eugenics expert who had brought horrors to the colony. He watched as the young thing grew into the apple of Nicole's eye and then watched all that be torn away in mere moments in what should have been a birthday wish for Brenna.
Vincent wanted to help fix this. Vincent contacted Leona Yoste, mother of Monique Warren and told her about Monique's behavior and convinced Yoste to take Monique to the USS Pittsburgh where Yoste served as a doctor.
Vincent needed to do this for Brenna and for Nicole. Vincent went to see Nicole. She and Magenta had left Brenna with the Nanny-Gram. They were going to counselling of their own. Vincent looked at Brenna. He did not see Brenna at all, he saw his own daughter, Nicole Viceroy. He told her what he had done.
Brenna cried out in the pain of losing someone. Vincent knew it would be horrible. Vincent looked at Brenna, "Like your parents, you will need counselling but in time, you will know that Monique was bad for you."
Brenna cried. Vincent just held her.
