Wendy Smith is the unofficial student leader of the Omega Academy. The beautiful young lady best known for her brief romance with Nicole Branson but better known as a common trophy girlfriend for Commander Acrylos Teero. The beautiful student is often seen on the arm of the Public Works Commissioner and Energy fed construction genius. Wendy however has felt overtly threatened by the arrival of the equally beautiful and more commercially talented Lt. Mackenzie Smythe, formally of Governor's Station who has become a constant companion of Commander Teero.
The benefit for young Wendy is a chance to work on her studies. The whole point her father had by sending here was to get her a real opportunity. She was deeply hurt when her father and uncle Jordan were discovered to be part of the Sector 31 plot to bring down Admiral Hunt and who attempted to kill Captain John Warren aboard the USS Quasar Quest. Wendy further buried herself in her studies.
When the Covington Covenant ended live Omega Research, Wendy became engrossed in the history of the planet and in the history of Admiral Veltkamp. She spent some time both here in Omega Prime with Admiral Veltkamp, whom she has become friendly enough with to call 'Tim', and a lot of time with him in Veltkamp Village. Wendy would like to see the original Outpost 294. She became obsessed.
For Admiral Veltkamp, this was a lifetime ago. He had gone on to Fleet command and thought very little of the Omega Planet except for the claim he made after discovering the Omega Molecule here as well as the incredibly active geothermal core which now powers the five city Phoenix Colony. To Wendy, Tim is a hero. Admiral Veltkamp does not see it as so critical.
Dr. Ro Anora, the commanding officer of the Bajoran Omega System Technical Observatory and Network, the defacto mayor of BOSTON made the initial discovery on a tour around her developing city. She contacted Lt. Commander Thua'ra Varno of Cardassia who verified the findings.
Wendy had her discovery. Exercising the largest archeological dig in the history of the colony, Wendy has developed her graduate thesis on Outpost 294. She will be more than just a crewman now. The project has been so visual and so amazing that she will most assuredly get an officer's posting. Wendy has revealed something truly special here exposing the original outpost, far larger than was believed earlier. Wendy has confirmed that the dig will continue for the next few years hopefully exposing more about Fleet life in the 2370s and in particular life on the once desolate colony.
The outpost will also include a globe shaped museum, a tribute to the Federation Complex built by Vice Admiral Branson in Omega Prime. The museum will host many symbols of life in 2370, of the pioneering efforts of then Captain Tim Veltkamp and even shocking new evidence that the site may have been first identified long ago by a legendary Birth of the Federation Captain known only as Commodore James Shackleford. Very little is known about Shackleford but a data crystal has been found in the dig which indicates that Shackleford may have been this far out so long ago.
Wendy was standing on top of the excavation; her face all dirty in the dust of the dig smiling as Nicole walked up to the young officer. Nicole put her arm on her shoulder, "This is truly amazing. Congratulations."
"Thank you, Vice Admiral.", Wendy smiled, feeling a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
"Congratulations, Lieutenant.", came a voice from behind Wendy.
"Um... Crewman Wendy Smith.", She spoke softly turning around.
It was Commander Acrylos Teero with a large bouquet of roses, an Omega Academy Diploma and her Lieutenant Pips, "No, my dear, that would be Lieutenant Wendy Smith."
Wendy started to cry. Her face was dirty and messy but no one cared. Acrylos leaned forward and kissed her dirty little cheek. Wendy pulled him and gave him a hug. Acrylos looked at Nicole and smiled.
Dr. Velta Varno came walking out of the dig pit. She was holding a circa 2370 PADD. She turned it around so Nicole could read it.
UNDER THE OMEGA DIRECTIVE, OUTPOST 294 WILL BE CLOSED AND LISTED AS OFF LIMITS ~ Captain Tim Veltkamp
Velvet looked at Nicole and started laughing, "I guess someone should have told us."
Nikki started giggling, "I guess so..."
