The decision to move the Phoenix Colony was not taken lightly. The Unification needed a defensible position. The Unification also did not want to expose the priceless asset, Sparta, the City Ship to the possibility of a major loss to the Federation. The move however has had a terrible effect on the alliance as a whole.
First, the Bajoran Republic has withdrawn its support of the colony in the Typhon Expanse. Losing the Omega Research has made support less valuable. Secondly, the Cardassians also have withdrawn their support rather than risk war with the Federation.
Now, Admiral Illyan Coren, who sat right here in Sparta at the Sparta Symposium and pledged the loyalty of the Betazed Council has approached the Federation with critical information on the colony, its city states and on Sparta. Coren sat here and told us that the Betazoid Alliance would support the Unification but now without the Colony and without the support of the arriving members of the Unification Fleet, the USS Wrath of Achillies, the USS Delta Orion, the USS Andromeda, the USS Kawanee and others, Coren has shown his true colors. He has withdrawn support and has repatrioted the Betazed Council to the Federation.
Once mighty and strong, the Phoenix Unification looks like a mere shambles of its position despite its new location. New alliances will need to be formed. The Beta Quadrant better be rife with supporters. The Alpha Quadrant surely has not.
Nicole burst into Vincent's Office, "What the hell is Coren up to? He sent a subspace message requesting Orchid, my Orchid, return to Betazed with Trista. He is citing the actions of Gregory and Hanna Kennedy and the return of Bobbi-Lee."
Vincent tried to console the Vice Admiral. The pair shared the same misery. This was definitely not how they had planned this to play out.
Nicole cried on his shoulder, "He can't take my Orchid, Can he?"
"Only she knows that.", Vincent kissed Nicole on the forehead.
