Felicity had had not many reasons to even open the Commune lately. The big move and the Klingon occupation are hardly reasons to celebrate. However, with the Klingon withdrawal, Felicity was once again in a partying mood.
She lit up the place made famous by Mary Lou Cole and brought the colony and its people back to life with a wonderful meal, the perfect dance beat and the wonders of 24th century holoprojection. The gala was incredible.
Nicole enjoyed the return to the role of Governor with many glasses of champagne. People were once again coming up to her and shaking her hand. She had experienced a very cold time in her history when the colony was put under the Klingons. Many people blamed her. Many people saw her as the symbol of futility often described by Christine T'Nley.
In the end, Nicole is their den mother. She may be a flake and a bit of a floosy but she is the symbol of the colony and now sits for her fourth term as Governor in the jaded and disjointed history of this place.
Magenta does not drink much. She is a Betazoid. She is also a doctor and takes some pride in appearing in control in public but she watched her house burn as the Klingons withdrew. She watched in horror as she, her beloved and their wonderful daughter barely escaped. She just needed to unwind. Magenta was enjoying herself.
Nicole giggled as Magenta slumped to the table. Felicity came over, "Would you like me to get you a combadge so you can beam her home?"
"Nah, I got this.", Nicole smiled, scooping her beautiful wife in her arms. In a sheer metaphor for the colony we love, Nicole may not always be the best partner. She may not always be the best leader. She may not be the smartest person or the most dynamic but she loves Magenta as she loves this colony. In the end, she will carry us home.
